Absolutely avoid the Chao Phraya Express Boat, a tour boat company that seems completely unmanaged. Perhaps it’s the personal behavior of the ticket staff, but it’s utterly appalling. Why does the company’s management not pay attention to their sales staff’s extreme rudeness, and why is no one overseeing this? I traveled by myself in Bangkok for a week, and it’s a fantastic country with friendly and kind people. This was the only instance of rudeness I encountered during my week-long trip. While buying tickets at the N9 Pier Chao Phraya counter with my child, as a tourist, I asked a couple of questions for clarification and discussed with my companion for about a minute. A old woman at the ticket counter was shockingly hostile, immediately yelling in English with great impatience, “If you don’t buy, GO AWAY!” I looked back and saw only one other group of customers behind me, and I had only been standing there for a minute or two. It’s hard to believe this happened in Thailand—so crude and disrespectful. Fortunately, as a tourist, I had other options. I immediately went to the counter next to it and bought tickets from another company without any rude treatment. What’s more ironic is that when I glanced back at the Chao Phraya counter, the rude old woman was leisurely sitting in her chair, scrolling her phone up and down forcusly , enjoying a relaxed moment during work hours, not busy at all. To the management of Chao Phraya, don’t you ever train your frontline ticket...
Read moreThe pier itself is nice, the problem are the scammers who cheat you with long tail boat tours which you end up paying ridiculous amounts of money for but actually not get to experience. Paid 2500 Baht for 2 hours on the canal just so that I could stop at a floating market. They did make one stop for 30 minutes at a market, just not the floating market I was promised and paid for. Out of the "two" hours, a good 40 minutes were spent just waiting at boat locks, we also returned 15 minutes earlier, making the total time spent actually in a moving boat about 35 min. The driver of the boat was speeding so fast there was no time to take snapshots along the way. I shared the boat and the tour with another couple from Germany, they had paid for one hour. When I complained to the driver and organisers they were rude and raised their voices, basically calling me a liar. A very unpleasant experience overall. This is the company in the photo. Avoid! Seeing the canals is otherwise very nice, I recommend you go to Sathorn pier and take the long tail boat tours from there, 1.5 hours for 600 Baht, I have done it twice and have not been...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Chang Pier quite by accident while heading toward a nearby rooftop bar and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our evening. Tucked away from the more touristy paths, this spot offers a stunning and unobstructed view of the Chao Phraya River and Wat Arun, especially at sunset. As golden hour sets in, the light reflects beautifully off the water and the silhouette of the temple across the river creates a truly magical backdrop.
The area itself is calm, clean, and surprisingly uncrowded considering the view it offers. There is a quiet charm to it, with couples sitting by the edge, locals passing through, and photographers setting up tripods hoping to catch the perfect shot. It feels far more authentic and relaxed than some of the more commercial viewpoints.
There are a few small cafés and eateries nearby if you want to grab a drink or bite while watching the river life go by. It is not a place where you will spend hours, but it is a perfect spot to pause and take in the moment.
If you are in the area around sunset, do not miss it. Chang Pier is a hidden gem that deserves...
