Stealth, on my rankings is a "Good" Coaster
Stealth is an Intamin Accelerator Rollercoaster, which is a model that uses a hydraulic launch to propel riders to the top speed extremely quickly instead of using a conventional lifthill. It opened in 2006 at the Chertsey theme park, shocking the UK with a speed of 80mph (which is the fastest in the UK) and an acceleration of 0 to 80 in 1.9 seconds. The ride is 205ft high, produces 4.5G of G Force and has no inversions.
The Theming of the area could use improvement. Stealth is themed to a racetrack, with heavy emphasis on pre 2000 American racetracks. All announcements are made with a heavy American accent and the famous teal and red American colour combination is used for pretty much everything. There is little Theming other than this though.
The ride vehicles use the rubber non padded Intamin OTSR'S (Over The Shoulder Restraints) instead of the Intamin lapbars. These OTSR'S can pin you down, but are generally quite comfortable. There is ample legroom in the train as well, unlike some other Intamin trains on rides like Colossus.
The ride begins with a voice telling you to "place your head back" and "face forward". The train then makes a slight movement backwards and forwards as it connects to the launch dog. A board with 10 light, 5 red and 5 green slowly starts to illuminate bthe red lights. A few seconds later, the voice comes back on and says " 3, 2, 1, Go, Go, Go!"
The Green lights all turn on at once after the last go and the train launches from the strions. 1.9 seconds later, the train has reached its maximum speed of 80mph. The train ascends a 205ft steep incline up a hill straight. Towards the top, the train makes a 90° incline right and it navigated the top of the hill, the top hat. An amazing sweeping view is provided, which on clear days can extend to Wembley Stadium. The train slows to about 5mph and you have a brief feeling of weightlessness. The train then descends the drop, making a 90° incline straight again approximately 1/3 of the way down. The train hurtles into an airtime hill once down, where at the top of the airtime hill, the brakes slow the train to a slow roll back into the station. And that's it.
The ride is over in less that 20 seconds and is extremely short. However it is extremely thrilling and provides a MASSIVE adrenaline rush. Overall, THORPE did a good job with this one.
Stealth is a "Good" coaster
POSITIVES: Extremely thrilling Launch one of the best in the world and the 3rd fastest acceleration in the world Provides some sensation of weightlessness
NEGATIVES: Can be slightly rough Theming...

Stealth is a one of a kind ride for the United Kingdom, blasting riders to 80mph and 205ft in the air in less than 1.9 seconds.
Stealth is an hydraulic powered Intamin launch coaster. The ride utilises a catch car attached one end to the train, and the other end to a winch drum powered by 24 motors. This acts as a slingshot-like system, resulting in the insane acceleration across the 18 metre launch track achieved by stealth. After leaving the launch track, the catch car detaches and travels back to the station, leaving the train launching 62.5 metres (205ft) up into the air, rotating 90 degrees left to complete a top hat. The trains then rotate another 90 degrees left as it completes the hill and then executes an airtime hill, giving riders a feeling of weightlessness for a brief moment, and eventually reaching the brake run after only 29 seconds.
As with many Intamin Launch Coasters, Stealth experiences occasional rollbacks, which occur when a train is unable to complete the course, specifically failing to make it over the top hat element as a result of energy loss. Occurrences are rare, and there is a braking system in place on the launch side of the track to safely bring the roller coaster back to a complete stop. However rollbacks are safe, and all staff/engineers are trained to safely evacuate guests...
Read moreLoved this! One of the fastest and shortest rides in Thorpe Park but it was great fun. We went mid week in mid June and there were hardly any queue times in the morning. Unfortunately as it was a boiling hot day, the ride broke down 'just' as I got to the front of the queue... Booo! It was then closed of which we were gutted as Nemesis and the Ghost Train were also shut, but then it thankfully reopened in the last hour of the day. We managed to get on the last ride before the park closed (albeit with a slightly longer queue this time around) and got to sit at the front which was brilliant. Make sure you don't have any glasses on though as we saw some poor lady lose hers as the...
