St John's House Trust — Attraction in Bridgend

A tranquil, spiritual, beautiful and fascinating place - one of the shiniest historical gems of Bridgend town and county.

St John's House is run by a local charity and everyone involved is a volunteer. The team is extremely friendly and welcoming. The tours are informative, professionally delivered and insightful, there is a well-stocked gift shop, and you can sit and enjoy a decent filter coffee and light refreshments.

A programme of events is also put on, including arts and crafts, plays, live music, storytelling, historical/archaeological...

St. John's House is a lovely place, managed by a vibrant community of volunteers. The place and the history of its rescue deserve more recognition. It's a great experience for family: my son loved practising "Brass rubbing" to reproduce a Welsh dragon, that is now gleefully on display in his bedroom =). Nearby are also worth a visit the St Illtyd's Church and the ruin of Newcastle Castle (Y Castell Newydd), both at ~3 minutes walking distance from St....

Really enjoyed my visit this evening to St John's house. A lovely warm welcome. A tour through the history picking out interesting findings uncovered and how the function of the property has changed. Expertly told by an archeologist. Run by hard working volunteers trying to keep the place alive. The more who visit the more hopefully they can raise to afford work to save the building.
