Went here today during our 10 year wedding anniversary trip away and believe me we were not disappointed. We opted for the large afternoon tea priced at £26 per couple and worth every penny the choice of fillings for the sandwiches were really good and tasted so nice and everything was made fresh to order. We got a choice of 4 different sandwich filings along with a piece of sausage roll each and scotch egg again both own made superb flavours. Now to the cakes 3 choices each person yes 6 cakes between 2 people plus there are scones to come too. Anyway we both opted for the pina colada cheesecake oh my lord this was to die for then i had dime bar cake then the wife chose the rest which were carrot cake a sherry trifle and a caramac cake all the cakes were cut into slices but the trifle was served in a tea cup all of three cakes were so tasty even though e took some home to eat as we were busting lol. Finally the scones the wife opted for cherry and coconut whilst i went for the raspberry and white chocolate chunk again these were both mouth watering as we cut in half and shared then our pallets were left watering with all the delicious flavours which we washed down with unlimited tea and coffee. I have had lots of afternoon teas from all over but this 1 was the best by far and i have to say i was totally impressed with the decor and the staff who were all very welcoming and kind to their customers. Would deffo come here again even though from lincoln but worth the journey and made our anniversary outting a lot better. 1 last thing the person who baked all the cakes is worth her weight in gold by heck she knows a good cheesecake and cake when she makes 1 well done to...
Read moreOur reservation was somehow forgotten by them.
To accommodate us the waitress picked a recently vacates table and ineffectually used the palm of her hand to wipe the crumbs to the floor.
If this is what they're willing to do in front of customers then what is happening in the kitchens where the customer cannot see?
We took our seats trying to ignore the remaining crumbs on the table. Trying to enjoy ourselves in spite of the bad hygiene.
When the drinks arrived, the cups had dust or lint or something in. I wiped them out. Having a 5 month old we don't get many chances to go on a date but hey your 5th wedding anniversary comes only once, so again we tried to overlook and enjoy ourselves.
Then the food came. The scone was more like a thick biscuit. Barely any rise. Not a scone by anyone's definition. Still doing my best to make good of a bad situation I asked for a replacement. I was told:
that's how they come because they're baked fresh they have no more left she will cut it for me if I want
I didn't want excuses. I didn't want her to cut the biscuit she calls a "scone". I wanted a scone. But regardless what excuse is that? She agreed it was sub par and stubbornly tried explaining it away. So some scones come out the oven sub par and they just serve them to customers and argues with customers when umbrage us raised.
My wife kindly share her scone with me.
In spite of their terrible service we enjoyed our time together. Shame about the venue we choose, but it's not about where you go it's about who you're with. Having said that, this...
Read moreGreat fresh food and a lovely inviting atmosphere! The sandwiches were light and delicious... The cake portions were very generous, even enough for us to take home and enjoy later! Staff were friendly and welcoming and there was a great buzz about the place. Was a slight shame about the amount of cakes that weren't available, and then had to change our order once it had been placed due to more cakes selling out. There was also a slight delay on our food, almost an hour from siting down. But would HIGHLY recommend and can't wait...
