Actually really disappointed with my first and sadly last visit here last week
I came with my 2 reluctant neurodivergent children who I encouraged greatly to 'try it out'.
However after asking if the kitchen would be able to do some cheesy chips for my fussy eating daughter (I assumed wrong that this would be possible, after all they did have cheesy garlic bread and pizza on the menu) the person at the bar said it wasn't possible, unless I paid an extra £3! I decided this was too ridiculous to purchase so I ordered rosemary fries (which turned out to be just fries) a children's margarita, truffle and mushroom pizza, a cheesy garlic bread, 2 Appetizer and a half cider shandy. This cost me £40. Wow
Our food came and while the mushroom pizza and garlic bread were ok, my daughters margarita was uncooked. Raw dough and inedible. I could see the dough was uncooked just by looking it. I did not want to try it .
We did not get a stardard 'how is your food' interaction from the waitress and after about 20 mins, my children were keen to leave, from overwhelm and disappointing food.
When the waitress finally arrived to ask if we wanted boxes for our pizzas, i plucked up the courage to mention the uncooked pizza. She agreed with me that is looked raw, informed the chef, then asked to show the chef. After 5 mins she returned with the pizza telling me the chef said nothing was wrong with it, proceeded to try to educate me on the type of pizza it was and asked if wanted another.
At this point my children were mid meltdown and having another pizza made was not an option. Instead I walked out trying to calm my children, feeling regretful that I hadnt requested a refund and extremely angry and disappointed that it wasn't offered one, and that our experience here was not something we were willing to try again.
If the management read this, I do hope some of our money goes into training your staff something along the lines of 'the customer is always right' kind of approach. Feel free to offer us...
Read moreWe visited The Cross Hands today as a family of 13 (8 adults and 5 children) for a late Sunday lunch. As always the food was of an excellent quality, hot, plentiful and good value for money. Service was friendly and efficient. The Cross Hands is a welcoming place for families with children, providing a selection of toys inside and swings, slide etc in the garden. However, we have also visited as “adults only” and the vibe is very much gastropub and not kindergarten. We have held two large family gatherings in the upstairs function room. In both cases the buffet food provided was of an excellent quality, providing just the right balance between tradition and innovation. We have also eaten lunch and dinner here and the food is of a consistently high standard. The Head Chef (Martin) is obviously very interested in food and is committed to providing good quality food and total customer satisfaction. This review is long overdue, thanks to all the team at The Cross Hands for the many meals we have...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Lovely Family-Friendly Pub!
We had a wonderful time at this charming local pub — perfect for families! From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with a cozy interior and a lovely outdoor seating area that’s great for kids to run around safely.
The menu had something for everyone, with delicious options for both adults and little ones. Our meals came out quickly and were clearly made with care — fresh, tasty, and generous portions. There’s even a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks for those driving or bringing kids.
What stood out most was how genuinely family-friendly the place is. High chairs, a kids’ menu, clean restrooms with baby changing facilities, and even some small toys and books to keep the little ones entertained.
We’ll definitely be back — it’s a perfect spot for a relaxed family lunch or weekend treat. Highly...
