As per the name Central Park is right in the centre of Chelmsford and is a very large lovely park space perfect for couple, families etc.
In the main part near the town centre there is a large childrenâs play area as well as a large lake with ducks, and a nearby cafĂ© with plenty of outdoor seating. It is very well kept with lovely flower beds in the section near the back of Primark and has a separate cycle lane in that park away from walkers.
In the area near M&S there is a picnic area, a war memorial and lovely war memorial related benches to sit on (see photos). In the summer months there is nearly always an ice-cream van right at the end of the park by M&S.
Also in the summer months festivals, carnivals, funfairs and other entertainment take place on the large area near the roundabout (near the duck pond).
If you walk through Central Park youâll find it links up with Admirals Park/Tower Gardens and provides a park walk all the way from the town centre by M&S right through Admirals Park and on to Writtle. Great place to have a...
Read moreCentral Park is fabulous, and we are lucky to have it practically on our doorstep. It's a lovely green, alternative "commuting" route to town and the station, especially if you live on the southside of Parkway. In terms of age groups, there are facilities for everyone from playpark to skatepark, tennis and basketball courts, plus the weekend Parkrun. The planted areas are lovely and the riverside pathway is peaceful with aces to stop and sit. On the downside, is the excessive speeds of some of the (mostly) lycra-clad cyclists and ditto their use of the little bridge (clearly marked no bicycles, but I guess not everyone is aware of the highway code). I like to think their helmet cams are recording their misdemeanors. Not a thought for pedestrians/dog walkers/parents with young children and pushchairs.
In the main, this park is kept immaculately clean. However, litter that is strewn around the litter bins is not of human doing, but the work of seagulls and magpies. The council need to look at...
Read moreI was in Chelmsford for a few days in September to drop my daughter at Writtle University. I'd not stepped foot in Chelmsford before, but nice place.
Central Park runs right through the town, and along the river. Its got some nicely landscaped areas in the center and some great walks, we went as far as Writtle. The whole park is well kept, nicely landscaped, attractive, and feels safe. There's a well marked and segregated pedestrian and bicycle lane that runs along the river.
The park was well used, but is so big it didn't feel busy. There's a few coffee shops and play areas, and on the day we were there, there was a fun run in the morning, and a 'Beats and Eats' festival in the afternoon.
Festival was great! Not sure how often they run events at the park, but this was a good afternoon out.
Hit the thumbs up if this...
