I, my wife, daughter and 2 grandchildren travelled by train from Gloucester to Chepstow to visit the museum based on its website telling me it was open from 11am to 4pm on a Saturday. On arrival at the museum 8th Feb it was closed. I enquired opposite at the tourist information office as to why it was closed? 'Oh they close during January and part of February' !!!! Why is the museum site still saying open? Why close a warm, dry interesting place during winter?? The rest of Chepstow was dire. The castle was overpriced, cold and wet and the rest of the town was in a poor way, turkish barbers, pubs, charity shops and super drug. Read moreLoved it. Really nice, quaint, experience. Small local museum with free entry and a range of exhibitions. Particularly liked the history of the town and bridge, and also the hospital/school section. It's not big, but give it an hour of your time if you are in the area - it's a cracker.
Architecture in the building is also lovely with one of the nicest staircases...
