First time visiting this pub with friends last night and we were not disappointed. I made a booking online but when we arrived it was not on their system, they instantly dealt with it and seated us without any fuss which was awesome as the pub was busy. 2 of us had the pie of the day, one had chicken katsu Kiev and the other person had a chicken dish from the specials board (I think). All arrived on warm plates (something one of our party insists on, so he was happy), really big portions and the pie was made at the pub not brought in, chicken and mushroom - soooooo much filling! Probably the best pie I’ve ever eaten!! The apple and blackcurrant crumble was very sharp but the custard was delicious- we had a delicious meal and we will definitely be back again (we booked for our next meet up as we left) - highly recommend. There is a car park really close to the pub making it a really easy place to meet up with friends. Also a great covered outdoor seating area.

It was a nice environment and the waiting staff were very nice. There is an option to order from the table by first scanning QR code. That takes you to a site where you can place your order. This could be useful if it is very busy in speeding up your service. The food was well presented and came in good time. The garlic bread was outstanding and the half chicken was decent. My Boat Inn burger however was far from good. It was basically charcoal with a bit of meat in the middle. It was replaced and the second one was just the same. I was asked if second one is any better, having showed the waiter my reply. "I guess not, oh well sorry about that" and off he trotted. Give it a go, hopeful your experience will be better than mine

I visited The Boat Inn for lunch with my parents after going to Chepstow Castle. I chose this pub because it has good reviews for gluten-free options and I am coeliac. The lunch menu isn't really marked up with any GF options but they can be flexible. They didn't have any GF bread in yesterday so I opted for steak with cheese, salad and chips (all gluten-free). The portion size was generous and the food itself was delicious. Service was great too and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The building itself is clearly quite old as the ceiling bows in places but this adds to its character. If I'm ever in Chepstow again, I will be back!

Finished the coastal path today in Chepstow. 870 miles from Chester so was really looking forward to a drink and some food. Obviously being bank holiday Saturday and a lovely sunny day it was very busy. The waitress explained to grab an outdoor table and order and pay for food off the "app" on the end of the table. We scanned the app which took a £1 prepayment off the card but then it disappeared! Logged into my banking and £1 was pending from a gaming site which then charges £39.99 per month!!! Spoke to a lovely waitress who said she would check at the bar! She came back and said she had never seen it before and to go straight to the bar. Went to the bar and spoke to both a man and a woman who both said it was not one of theirs and they had never seen it before. I told them I had scanned it off one of their tables so it was something to do with them. All they could do was repeat " we have never seen it before" and offered no help at all Well thanks for your total lack of assistance! Not even "which table was it" " let's go check" just " we have never seen it before" Great really helpful not!

Things happen and things go wrong but it's how you try to resolve them that counts!

But hey don't worry I've had to cancel my card and now my wife will be paying for the rest of our holiday!

Let's hope no one has swapped all your table QR codes to send money elsewhere instead eh!

EDIT IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNER

I've read your response so wanted to add the following

Telling me a couple of times "It's nothing to do with us" reassured me of absolutely nothing!

You didn't look at my phone and you didn't offer to come to the specific table to check it!

I appreciate you couldn't understand how this had happened but you did nothing to check or try and work it out!

Assuming I had previously scanned another QR code was actually incorrect and you are right in that you were not to know , but did you ask me ? No! I could have told you that my phone had been in airplane mode all day as it was being used for Ordance Survey map navigation. It was actually sat on your table turned off charging up on my power bank. I had to turn it on to scan YOUR QR code.

It did not automatically come up as a gaming site, it came up saying "before you order we take £1 pre authorisation" then "split the bill" then when I clicked on menu it disappeared! It was only when I logged into my banking app it came up as a gaming site and I was immediately concerned.

You are correct you didn't know but you didn't ask to see it, didn't check on the specific table , nothing.

I'm glad that it has not happened again and we will never know how it happed will we!

Sadly you "can not reassure me that the QR codes had not been replaced" at that specific time as you didn't even ask which table it was or bother to check which would have been the first thing i would have checked in your shoes! Maybe that QR code had been covered with another, maybe someone intercepted it I don't know either but it DEFINITELY came from your establishment!

Had you shown a bit more interest and empathy, taken two minutes away from the bar to speak to me , checked my phone and checked the table at least I would have felt you had done your best!

We may not have had an answer but i would have felt you tried your best and I would have walked away from your pub still cheesed off at having to cancel my card but I promise you I would not have felt the need to leave this review!

Things happen often without fault but it's how you deal with them that matters.

I hope you continue to do well as you obviously have a very popular pub in a...

Arranged a family meal and get together for x17 of us, this was to celebrate my mums 75th birthday. All food was pre ordered beforehand. We were seated upstairs which was great as it was rule of x6 we could all still sit near to each other. Starters came out well and hot but unfortunately that's where the good food and service ended. My mums main meal was forgotten completely and took a further 25 minutes to come out by which point we had all finished, when I say finished I and a few others in the party hadn't eaten much of the belly pork as it was disgusting. My husband complained to the owner who in all fairness was very gracious and apologised profusely offering a free round of drinks and my mother's meal complimentary. We rarely saw anyone to check up how our meal was going and service was very hit and miss. I had dropped a cake to be bought out after the meal and we again had asked for it to be brought out..25 minutes later I went to the bar and spoke to the owner requesting that I now take the cake myself, at this point I was extremely annoyed at the catalogue of errors building up. When I went back upstairs I was told by family members that a waitress was extremely rude when returning the cake. We lit and sang to my mother despite her eldest son and family now having to leave due to travelling, the time now being 3.30pm, we sat at 1pm, again highlighting the shoddy service. We paid and left feeling very disappointed, however it doesn't end there, upon leaving my sister in law heard one if the waitress say there's always one. We have always supported the boat Inn in the past with positivity, hence why I booked it. Disappointed is an...

TLDR : Huge good quality portions with great service and a delicious David Hasslehoff sounding beer.

Located with views of the river that keeps the English away from the Welsh or vice versa, the boat inn is a traditional boat themed pub with the music of a 2003 bar - but in a good way.

We pre booked and rightly so as very popular at midday. Dog friendly and kid friendly, greeted by the lovely staff who seated us early.

Portion sizes are thicker than the cast of love island with my fish and chips barely staying within the plate. Quality is not sacrificed however with the fish tasting like it was raised directly by Poseidon.

We also ordered a Sunday roast. Saw a 2 star review recently where someone complained at the portion size and quality. That person needs to shut up and stick to licking the dirt from underneath their unclean oven. Again huge portions that were cooked to perfection. 4 types of veg on offer, extra gravy and a good amount of meat.

Highly recommend for a family meal out, taking relatives from out of town or a tinder date probably …. I don’t know what people use these days as I am a recluse who plays Xbox. Hit me up on COD for a Warzone game...
