Pencester Gardens is a small green space in the heart of Dover. Nestled between the shopping areas. The garden offers a central place to meet, sit on a bench. It has amazing view of Dover Castle and St Mary' Church. We can stroll along the River Dour, which is at edge of the park. River has clear waters, big fishes, ducks, and other birds. There is skateboard area for youngsters and play area for kids. It has clean Public Toilet too (Closed @ 6.00 pm). Nice connectivity as little walk from Dover Priory Station and the main Bus Station is just adjacent.
Sometimes, they have fairs, exhibitions or concerts in a garden. Its fun !!
However, garden has not flower beds, drinking water facility or any other basic and attractive facilities. Cleanliness is not looked after properly. Benches are occupied by dunked or homeless people. They drink, smoke and throw can & butts here and there. Sometime it is scary to walk in the late evenings.
Potential, the Garden could have been much much better. Now it is mainly use as a pathway between Market Square and Bus Stop.
Suggestion : Dover Town Council should make this Garden beautiful and Must visit...
Read morePencester Park & Gardens is a great open space where local and community events are held throughout the year. It has a Bandstand which is used by community groups throughout the Spring, Summer & Autumn and the beautiful and unique River Dour winds its' way around the edge of the park. Fantastic views of Dover Castle can be had from the park and the open space is landscaped with colourful trees. There is a skate park for youngsters and a young childrens' play area, both enclosed - but the open space is great for families to generally have a kick around - youngsters can get quite lively so always best to be aware! Best advice is not to feed the Seagulls, many congregate in the park but gulls can get quite aggressive is there is food around. Boisterous behaviour is perhaps to be expected in play areas and parks but generally quiet areas can be found and enjoyed by the river if you take the time to look - and the river is beautiful at any time of the year. Generally, as with all community open spaces, consideration by all, for all makes for a...
Read moreNice place in theory but in practice just exposes the lack of care dover council has for its people - alcohol and substance addicts have found it a nice place to reside. Some people are suggesting more police presence but that's just going to move them elsewhere, to unsafer spaces. Dover needs to start giving addicts and homeless people the help they need and give people enough opportunities and sense of belonging and purpose that they don't turn to a life of crime and substance abuse in the first place. Giving safe drug spaces and providing immediate housing are the only proven solutions but of course the council and government don't care about their residents that pay for their jobs. You can build as many parks as you like but as long as people don't feel secure in life, dont have stable jobs or housing, you will have criminal...
