Our family was the first to stay here as hotels and inns were allowed to open up. Sharon made us feel right at home and gave us plenty of info before our stay so we knew about the “Covid” procedures in place at the Castle House Guest House. She was even able to help us look up what restaurants were operating and suggested booking in advance, which was a good idea. The inn was clean and cozy. The beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows. The windows let in the light but also had black out curtains when it was time to settle for the night. There was a kettle in the room with tea, coffee, and biscuits. The shampoo and lotion smelled so good that we are taking the opened bottles home. Breakfast was perfect and it was nice to know that Sharon buys locally sourced ingredients (the Kent honey!!!!) and, before Covid, avoided excessive packaging where possible. There are books and games available or tv and WiFi if that’s more to your liking. Great location! A 3min drive to the castle and in walking distance to the beach, Cliffs, and high street. They’ve done a great job and met the challenge of Covid protocols. We will be back next time we use the Chunnel or ferry or come back for the Dover castle tunnels once...

If you're looking for a real true old English B&B experience, this is perfect! Upon arrival Sharon is super friendly and makes you feel at home. You climb a typical old charming English building narrow staircase to get to your room. Large rooms with lots of light, comfy bed and linens, tea & coffee, and good toiletries. Breakfast is excellent! As much as possible the ingredients are sourced locally and there is something for everyone, including vegetarian. Location is just around the corner from The White Horse Pub that dates back to 1365 and survived both wars. It's about a 10 minute walk to Dover Castle and about a 20 minute walk to the pier for excellent views of the White Cliffs of Dover. If you're looking for elevators and valet service, go somewhere else, BUT it'll be your loss because you'll be missing a real English experience at a charming B&B with a super friendly host, comfy rooms and...
Read moreThe Castle House Guest House is homey, charming and comfortable, with a great breakfast. We were four guests in two rooms: me, my son, and my elderly parents. The stairs were a bit of a challenge for my mom and dad, as the stairways are very narrow, but the accommodations were clean and cozy. ||Okay, so I rated CHGH very high because it was just what we were looking for. It’s a converted home with a wonderful home-feel, right at the base of Dover Castle. That being said, here are the things to keep in mind:|- narrow stairwells, can be tricky for lots of luggage. |- both big and small rooms, the rooms won’t be uniform in layout.|- on a hill, approach to the hotel is on castle hill so the walk is sloped.|- it’s not particularly close to the train station, may warrant a cab if walking isn’t an option. ||What’s great|- It’s a lived-in space, the family that runs it is in residence |- Breakfast is delicious|- It’s a great access either to the castle in one direction or one of Dover’s main streets in the other, with...
