This is a place that has been on my radar to visit for several years but due to lack of spare time then covid it pretty much evaded me until Monday. Being from a maritime background and also visiting LT numerous times there was a lot I could relate to. The entry fee is just £2 which is extremely good value, like most museums its run by volunteers and a notable difference here is that the team are totally focussed on ensuring you enjoy your visit. They take time to talk to you, ask where you are from and also willing to help trace back any family members that may have served at sea in the local community. Its nice to experience people who are so passionate about their maritime heritage and offer their time to share that with people. The museum itself is very well laid out with lots of items from the floor to the rafter's, plenty of information cards and text on the walls. I lost count how many models were on display, there must be at least 50 plus. Another nice feature was a mini cinema where you could watch various short clips about Lowestoft's rich maritime history, its also well equipped for school visits with a dedicated room for children's activities. There is a toilet facility there as well plus a small gift shop where you can purchase a keepsake from your visit. Thanks once again to the lady and 2 gents for making us...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLong overdue visit, due to life & Covid. Travelled up from Brixham in Devon for a family reunion. The Museum was my first visit after a good night's sleep. I was not disappointed. My Grandfather's discharge papers were still there, such an emotional wave of nearness came over me. I was made to feel so welcome by the Volunteers & was given some instructions on how to move around the Museum so that I wouldn't miss a thing. Near the exit is a little room to the left, don't leave without popping in. So look forward to my next visit soon. Take a little walk along road to the right as you leave & take in the view of remnants of the fishing nets, my Mum used to repair them at the height of the Herring season. Take a photo of the Ness sign, England's most...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt normally leave a review but I want to share my experience today, on approach you donāt have any idea of what to expect but from entering the door we were made welcome and I got the impression that the volunteers love to share what has to be seen to be believed. The displays are well organised, signage and videos plus sound effects are fantastic. The place is clean and user friendly. Well done to everyone involved for making this the best museum experience...
