Lovely light house . 113 steps! The main stairs are a stone spiral staircase the last set is a ladder set quite narrow width and there is a low part where u need to duck your head. The view is amazing and the gents wh give you the tour are fantastic with there knowledge. Coming down the ladder backwards is a tad daunting but it's the only safe way down. The kids loved it . My 3 almost 4 year old managed it and my 7 year old you need full shoes for on something with a back on it due to the ladder part. The light house is amazing and now ran by a trust. It cost £12 a family of 4. There is an age restriction no one under the age of 3 years ago as they have to be a sertan height to go up and they do measure them . My son was just a fraction under but the gent asked him some questions and made us aware of the health and safety. The gentleman make exceptions so it's worth asking. There is no upper age limit. You just have to be fit for all...

If you are visiting Southwold this tour is must do. Currently booked through Adnams brewery tours. The tour of the lighthouse has 113 steps, glorious views of Southwold and the coast with a bit of history thrown in. Our guide Bev gave us lots of information and facts about the lighthouse and the various lamps used over the years to keep the light shining. The story of the bakers boy who noticed the light was out and raised the alarm which led to the discovery of the keepers being too ill with Spanish flu to keep the light burning which led to him and his dad keeping the light burning while they recovered. We had amazing weather when we visited so got some lovely views of the town...

Construction started on it in 1887 and it officially opened in 1890 with a height of 31 metres. If you want you can enjoy a panoramic from the top of the lighthouse by pre booking a guided tour. On this tour on you will be taken on a behind the scenes trip learning about the history of this building and ultimately climbing the 113...
