Such an impressive museum, especially for the size and for one largely (or entirely?) volunteer run. The displays have been carefully thought through to make the most of the space and the collections. I particularly like the ‘seek and find’ drawers and the interactive table and chest of drawers for children, allowing you to place an object on the table and learn more about it on the screen. It would be very easy for such a small space, displaying such a wonderful array of objects over such a long time period to be overwhelmingly cluttered. This museum manages to avoid that and instead has interpreted the collection and displayed it in categories which are accessible and interesting for all ages. My 1 year old loved it as there was so much to see at his level. Thank you!

Best place to find out about the history of Southwold. The many artifacts from the long lost Southwold Railway were especially interesting. It closed in 1929 but some traces of the trackbed and a rebuilt station building can be found today. Also the battle of Sole Bay of 1672, us and the French fighting the Dutch over fish. Plus ca change...

Fantastic place. Small but so full of amazing items. All gathered from local from the local people and all from the local area. It really is a snap shot of this area from thousands of years ago to fairly modern times. Amazing preserved history of this wonderful old village and it's inhabitants. One of the best 'museums' I've seen.

My husband and I went there yesterday and the lady there was very friendly and helpful. The museum is bigger than it looks from outside and if full of amazing artifacts and fossils. We really enjoyed going and looking at all the exhibitions. There were interactive displays for children and even a costumes cupboard that children could try on. There is no fee to enter, you put in a donation in one of the boxes. It was really good, we highly recommend a visit if you are in Southwold. We will be visiting...

Lovely Museum However, used their auto donate contactless point, followed the instructions to give £5, when I got home I found I had been charged £20. An error clearly that needs resolving. But my frustration is that they have not replied to my emails or phone messages in order to sort it out. I know it's a charity, but I think they should be able to sort errors of this kind out and not leave me ignored and out of...
