We went to Coasters as a family in June. We never even thought to ask if vegan options were available, as all restaurants in Southwold offer excellent choices these days. The waitress was lovely, I can't fault her , but the chef, whoever he was , was unhelpful in the extreme. I was served soup as a starter , which was perfectly adequate. The main course was supposed to be pea and asparagus risotto , which would have been fine if it had been prepared properly, but it was tasteless muck , just peas and rice with 3 asparagus spears laid across the top. To add insult to injury it was almost cold , and was a ridiculous price. I ate one mouthful and gave up. We visit Southwold regularly as we live nearby, but we absolutely will never eat in this place again. We were also eating in the wooden huts out the back and kept getting an unpleasant whiff from the toilets opposite. We ate wonderful food all week including the Swan Hotel where we were staying, but this experience ruined...

Looked forward to our 4 days advance booking after seeing people dining through the window and good reviews prior to our booking. However on arrival, we were taken to a “beach hut” (1 of 3) at the outside rear of the premises passing several occupied and unoccupied tables in the restaurant area on our way. The beach huts were in the same area as the outside toilets - not a good first experience and I'm sure there was no mention of the possibility of being booked in a small beach hut when we made the booking. If we had we would not have booked.

To the manager - We were looking forward to the ambience and atmosphere of Coasters restaurant which was none existent in...

A spur of the moment lunch, we sat out the back in one of the dog friendly beach huts, which are great and probably more fun than being inside. Friendly and helpful staff. The starter l(blue cheese pate) lacked something but was OK. The sea bass mains was very nice and a decent size. I would have preferred a whole crab to a dressed crab however that's not a complaint. The NZ Sauvignon Blanc was top drawer and reasonably priced.

One minor criticism, the rear area, outside the huts could do with a spruce up and a fresh lick of paint.

If you are in Southwold it's well worth a visit (book in advance though to avoid...

A return visit, which was a slight disappointment. The menu seems to have changed with less Seaford. My partner had scampi and chips, the portion of scampi was big, probably too big. I went for smoked haddock, leak and potato gratain - this seemed to be dominated by potato, but was very good, the addition of broccoli on top was a nice touch. The restaurant is fairly narrow, and with people walking past to the beach huts outside and the toilets it is busy if you are seated toward the rear of the main building- the restaurant has to work with what the building allows, it may be best to have a table at the front.

Lovely little restaurant with friendly staff, I wanted a Sunday roast & although the restaurant inside was full we had a pod at the rear, fully covid complaint. I would have given five stars had the lamb not been on the tough side, but it was beautifully cooked with three roast potatoes & plenty of vegetables & Yorkshire pudding, I had to partake in the sticky ginger pudding with ice cream, it was delicious, although expensive was very nice & I would definitely recommend. Mum has limited mobility & they were very helpful in getting Mum to the pod, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, thank you.

We came across this place for lunch on a relatively busy, wet Saturday lunchtime in October. Although they were almost booked up, they managed to fit us in straight away. Service was quick, and there was a lot of choice on the menu - plenty of starters, sandwiches and hot meals. My partner had a sandwich (fillings slightly changed from the menu options) and I had scampi. His skinny chips were beautifully crisp, and my thick cut chips were equally crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The scampi was also very good, and we both left feeling quite full. Excellent value and a lovely atmosphere!
