We went to Coasters as a family in June. We never even thought to ask if vegan options were available, as all restaurants in Southwold offer excellent choices these days. The waitress was lovely, I can't fault her , but the chef, whoever he was , was unhelpful in the extreme. I was served soup as a starter , which was perfectly adequate. The main course was supposed to be pea and asparagus risotto , which would have been fine if it had been prepared properly, but it was tasteless muck , just peas and rice with 3 asparagus spears laid across the top. To add insult to injury it was almost cold , and was a ridiculous price. I ate one mouthful and gave up. We visit Southwold regularly as we live nearby, but we absolutely will never eat in this place again. We were also eating in the wooden huts out the back and kept getting an unpleasant whiff from the toilets opposite. We ate wonderful food all week including the Swan Hotel where we were staying, but this experience ruined...

However on arrival, we were taken to a “beach hut” (1 of 3) at the outside rear of the premises passing several occupied and unoccupied tables in the restaurant area on our way. The beach huts were in the same area as the outside toilets - not a good first experience and I'm sure there was no mention of the possibility of being booked in a small beach hut when we made the booking. If we had we would not have booked.
To the manager - We were looking forward to the ambience and atmosphere of Coasters restaurant which was none existent in...
Read moreA spur of the moment lunch, we sat out the back in one of the dog friendly beach huts, which are great and probably more fun than being inside. Friendly and helpful staff. The starter l(blue cheese pate) lacked something but was OK. The sea bass mains was very nice and a decent size. I would have preferred a whole crab to a dressed crab however that's not a complaint. The NZ Sauvignon Blanc was top drawer and reasonably priced.
One minor criticism, the rear area, outside the huts could do with a spruce up and a fresh lick of paint.
If you are in Southwold it's well worth a visit (book in advance though to avoid...
