Niftt little center. Yorks a maze though and it was very hard to find as a tourist there for the first time. However the history you see when walking the streets is amazing. Guy falkes parents house. Whipmawhopmagate which translates to small street i think. York dungeons. All the monuments museums and attractions. Also regular sight seeing buses. And the york wall walk. Also william the conqeurers fort. However you have to pay tl be admitted to most placed which isnt in keeping with the museum tradition of voluntary donations but i suppose they have to capitalise on the tourism.

Coppergate is a lovely little shopping area, easily accessible from several directions. There’s a small selection of shops such as The Works, Bodyshop, Flying Tiger and Primark, plus the much larger Fenwicks Department store. Some units are currently empty but I suspect this won’t be for long. The queues for the Jorvic centre can be long so prebook if possible. The open air centre of Coppergate has various eating options which is very popular on a sunny day such as today.

Had to visit Fenwicks when we found out they had one in York. Great department store which has a super Christmas selection of cards and decorations. We had cappuccino at Carluccios. Castle Fine Art is next door where we spent quite a while talking to Stuart who was very helpful in selecting some art for a future purchase.

Review: Coppergate Shopping Centre Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Coppergate Shopping Centre, situated in the heart of York, presents an array of shops to cater to varying tastes. While it offers convenience and a decent selection of retailers, it may not resonate with everyone's shopping preferences.

The layout of the centre is fairly straightforward, allowing for easy navigation, and it's undeniably in a prime location, making it accessible for both locals and tourists. However, the assortment of shops can feel somewhat uninspiring for those in search of unique or niche items.

The phrase "ugh shops" might come to mind for those who are looking for a distinct shopping experience or are perhaps overwhelmed by the commercial nature of such centres. Yet, for essential shopping or a quick retail fix, Coppergate gets the job done.

In conclusion, while Coppergate Shopping Centre serves its purpose as a mainstream shopping destination, it might not stand out for those seeking a more curated or special retail experience. It's a decent place to spend an hour or two but might leave the more discerning shopper wanting. Three stars for its functionality and location, but a little lacklustre in the...

Coppergate Shopping Centre is a shopping centre within York's ancient city walls. It has quite a rich shopping & culture offering, with a mixture of small and many large big-name high street shops, cafes, galleries & museums, and is also the site of the Jorvik Viking Centre.

The centre was founded in 1976 and is named after the Coppergate excavation, which uncovered the remains of a Viking settlement. The centre has been expanded several times over the years, and now has over 100 stores.

Coppergate Shopping Centre is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, and is known for its wide variety of shops, its vibrant atmosphere, and its convenient location.

The centre is located in the heart of York city center, near the train station. It is accessible by car, bus,...

Copper gate as well as a good shopping centre, has a host of history. Inside is the wonderful viking museum set on top of the original Viking settlement of yorvik. The name the vikings called York. Good place for the kids. Also St Marys church one of the oldest in York. Along side we have Cliffords Tower originally built of wood. Here over a hundred Jews died sheltering from a mob. In the time of Richard the lion heart. The instigater owed the Jews a lot of money. There were riots against the Jews all over England at the time. London Norwich Lincoln then here in York. It was built in stone by Henry the third. Circa 1245..as a motte for the castle. Seen next to the tower is the Castle Museum. A must for everyone...
