You should definitely visit this if: £15 is not a lot of money to you, you have a spare hour, and you don't already know something about Van Gogh. The first part of the experience is a 30-minute projector display on the walls of an old church set to classical music. This could have been fantastic but there was absolutely nothing about the story of Van Gogh's life or his works - it's just a jumbled collection of subtly and repetitively animated paintings. Sometimes it lingered on particular images for far too long, leaving the impression that it the program had frozen. The front projector wasn't properly aligned, meaning the text didn't display properly on the wall, and the quality of the projections was very poor - definitely not high definition. The second part of the experience is a tiny gallery containing illuminated prints of his works and some information boards about his life. This is where you can fork out extra money for a VR experience, but we...
Read moreI definitely recommend visiting here when in York! The main room, which you enter first is absolutely amazing. A 35 minute looped film is played on a projector, all around the room so you really feel like you are in the painting. The animations are clear, great quality and vibrant. You can really get a feel of Van Gogh’s life story through the animations. There’s deckchairs in the middle of the room if you want to watch the animations whilst reclined. Alternatively, there’s benches along the side of the room which are rather comfy. After watching the animation, there are several other rooms where you can have a closer look at some of the paintings, and read about Van Gogh’s personal life. There’s a lovely little gift shop at the end with Gogh inspired items. There is also an additional VR experience which is £3 extra pp (I think?) however I can’t comment on that because we didn’t do it. We will definitely be back here as it is such a...
Read moreWe were so incredibly disappointed with this experience. You pay so much money for absolutely nothing!! The first room is just a poor quality projection of some of VG’s artwork, accompanied by a few quotes. When you go to the next part it is just really poor quality photo copies of his art work yet again, followed by massive walls of text which aren’t really to do with his art but mostly somebody’s opinions. It also isn’t a big display at all. You then have the option of paying an extra £3 for a souvenir coin or £3 for a VR experience which is just ridiculous considering how much you’ve just spent on the tickets. You can visit other art galleries for free in other cities and have a much better time, or pay less in London (like we did) for a Van Gogh exhibition which was cheaper and much, much more impressive. Really don’t recommend this at all,...
