Coppergate Car Park — Local services in Great Britain

I didn't check the council website for the car park before entering. I've used the car park loads of times in the past so why would I?

The very minor but costly error I made was going up to the ticket machine and noticing the words 'Pay for your stay when you leave' or words to that effect written in bold BIG WRITING at the top of the machine. Happy days, walked out without thinking twice to read any other text, why would I, I've been here loads of times before. Returned to the car park at 9.30pm to find it all locked up. Super.

Call me complacent or land all the blame on me, fine but it was 2022 when I last checked. Its a city centre car park teeming with tourists so why on gods green earth is there no obvious prompt stating the opening hours? I would totally understand this way of operation if it was the Outer Hebrides.

There are hundreds of feet of wall every driver has to stare at on the spiral ramp to the car park at the top so where is the sign(s) on the aforementioned walls stating the opening hours? Its a very cheap solution. So rather than being just a bit complacent and making a costly innocent mistake you would have had to drive with your eyes closed.

Just a thought.

Don't park there if you're out for drinks - closes at 7:00 which is not very clear

We parked there at 6:30, and there is a sing at the entrance with the fees and the times all together with a tiny font, but didn't pay much attention as any other car park downtown is 24h and as other people said, it's 2023...

So, we went to collect our car after the drinks and it was locked inside along with our keys... We had to take an Uber back home, and almost pay for a hotel + £16 pounds overnight stay. Disaster.

Also, the next day I went to collect my car, the machine didn't work, and I had to call them for assistance (mind you, it was a Saturday and their offices are closed....). After trying to reach out for a decent amount of time, an extremely rude woman hung up on me and when I called back she said 'there weren't much she could do over the phone'. Finally, she tried to help only to make things worse and continue having a dreadful attitude the whole time.

I would avoid at all costs. I have to give 1 star as Google doesn't allow me to give none, but it's...

Parked here and it was the best parking I’ve used in a while! Needing disabled parking, was a little annoying it wasn’t on the ground floor, there is nice sized lifts, but who I was travelling with can’t go in lifts. So was a little walk! But reading the notice that blue badge holders could park in any bay, only read this once parked and leaving the car park, was useful. But I do need the extra space to open car doors. And that blue badge I was able to park all day for free! Thank you! This made visiting York so much better and easier. Such a relief that I didn’t have to use park and ride etc to come into the city centre. Will now always use...
