We struck lucky here on a visit to our daughters who lives only a 10 min walk away, the windmill was open on a lovely sunny Sunday morning as part of York unlocked weekends. Read moreLack of adequate parking lets this attraction down slightly. However, it is a brilliant example of a windmill and the only five-sailed mill I've seen. You can buy flour here on open days and every Saturday morning. There are several floors within the mill with displays and information boards on each. Read moreThis beautifully restored windmill is located in the middle of a housing estate (though to be fair, the windmill was there first). The volunteers who staff it are friendly and knowledgeable. You need to be reasonably physically able if you want to climb up the levels inside, but the effort is worth it.
