TL;DR- Awful reception service, wasted a whole load of time that I could've used to actually get a workout.
My personal experience with the gym so far:
I go into the reception area to ask about memberships, ready to pay straight away. The lady behind the counter is polite enough apart from one awkward comment, something along the lines of; 'Oh, you look much older than 14!' I didn't know whether to take that as a compliment or an insult- I mean, thanks, I guess? But I digress- She tells me that she can't do anything for me regarding memberships as I'm without an adult. Fair enough. So, I drag my grandfather out of the house, cash in hand, to get the whole membership thing out of the way. Upon arrival, (apart from being greeted by a completely empty reception for a good couple minutes) the same lady is there but it's clear that she's doing her very best to avoid us. We talk to another employee who tells us that there's nothing anyone present at the moment can do about the membership thing and to come back the next day to talk to a membership advisor about it. Again, that would've been a perfectly acceptable response, if only I knew that someone like that even existed. The fact that I wasn't told that information straight away and wasted so much time and resources getting myself back home and then dragging the only family member available who really isn't up to walking long distances, only to be told that, unnerved me. Especially due to the fact that the exact same lady from before was also present- was there a particular reason she couldn't have told me about that before? It's not like the place was busy the first time I saw her, and it was practically desolate the second time. A simple apology would've sufficed -after all, everyone makes mistakes from time to time, perhaps she simply forgot to mention it at the time- but the fact that she was so evasive and would not even come to address the problem but preferred to hide out, giving us an awkward smile on the way was quite irritating, to say the least.
Really looking forward to getting any sort of response because at this point I don't know whether I'm the one being...
Read moreI thought id leave a review after years of using this service.
Both my boys attend swimming on a Monday evening. There is always the same three female receptionists. Who I find to be extremely helpful and kind. I regularly forget my card and its never too much for them to show understanding and open the barrier or to help me find swimming spaces, they are always happy to check with a smile.
When calling reception in the morning, my calls have never been answered which is annoying. However, I appreciate people can be busy and a lovely lady always calls me back without me leaving a voice message which is great.
Regarding the swimming instructors, in the past there have been a couple of instructors who I would say need an 'attitude adjustment'. One instructor specifically has put my son down in the past for not having the confidence to jump in the pool. She shamed him and put him down which I found to be disgusting. I am paying for this service, the least you can do is speak with encouragement and respect to a child.
Saying that Dave who was there instructor once, was fantastic. He found ways to get my son to jump and wow he's so confident now when it comes to jumping in. Dave is very thorough in making sure children know everything expected in that stage before moving up and this is a fantastic teacher. There are no shortcuts with him!
I'd also like to say Imogens really kind and sweet nature towards the children has been lovely to see. One of my son is always happy when she's his teacher.
The swimming changing rooms are always maintained well. The staff are always washing the floors which is great. I did on a couple of occasions find a nappy in the changing rooms. Which is disgusting but down to inconsiderate service users. I would recommend cleaning the bars above your head in the changing rooms they are always full of months...

The facility is modern and well-maintained, with friendly staff on hand to assist visitors. The changing rooms are clean and spacious, and there are also ample parking facilities.
