Well talk about the children’s story “The Emperor and his new clothes” What an absolute waste of space and TAX PAYERS money . This place cost £21million, (well over budget) £5million from the Cornwall Council £11.7million from Heritage Lottery Grant and obviously more from some other source to renovate and finished in 2019. There is the Small Cornish Library upstairs with Archives. When my husband and I visited there was a VERY small exhibition about Redruth Brewery, some Tapestry’s on the wall, a few documents detailing when the first Cornish pasty was mentioned, a couple of Christmas Carol pamphlets, along with a few other documents. The Cafe was a small hole in a wall where you ordered food/drinks and uncomfortable seating in the Reception area. There were MORE EMPTY Conference/Research Rooms along with Empty Space than people. I think the stairs took up a good amount of space. Having put off visiting Kresen Kernow due to COVID etc I can’t tell you how UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED we were. We can’t understand why they didn’t incorporate the public library in such a huge building, or should I say White Elephant. It must cost an absolute fortune to keep running. It will probably end up like Heartlands at POOL closed due to lack...
Read moreWhat a lovely space! The old Redruth Devenish Brewery that used to fill the town with smells of Malt and Hops, is now converted into a wonderful Archive and exhibition centre, home to exhibitions of Cornish cultural and historical resources, there are workshops that you can join in with. As others have mentioned there is also a cafe integrated into the ground floor area, three of us met up here and had three different meals from the Cafe, they were lovely, great quality food with terrific flavours and really good value. On the top floor there is the county archive and a Library filled with lots of Local history, flora and fauna books, most of which we hadn't seen before, this is a lovely quiet space where you can sit and relax while looking through the resources all around. The access to this site is also terrific, level and uncluttered, the car park offers easy access with a wheelchair and is situated close to the building. The helpfulness and friendlies of the staff must also be congratulated, they really make you comfortable and are very engaging. Well...
