Had a nice stay at the Penventon Park Hotel this weekend. The Superior Georgian room was lovely, the spa treatment (massage) that my wife and I had was incredible. The food that we had was very tasty and we felt very full after one main each. Breakfast was also very good. However, I noticed a few little things that made me think that it shouldn’t be a four star hotel. Such as the ceiling of the pool room has a lot of what I could only call staining, I guess this is from the chlorine in the air or something. There were also other things like the changing room/toilet area didn’t seem too clean as well as things like the bathroom was quite dusty in places as well as a bit of black mold on the tile grout. Unfortunately you can’t see this well on the picture. we were a little peeved that just before our evening meal there appeared to be a huge event happening and the people attending that were turning up. We were peeved because of A) we weren’t informed that there would be a massive event on-site during our stay, which resulted in the copper bar being VERY busy. And B), one of the bar men had zero attention to who was at the bar before other people. One example is that someone who was clearly stuck way too far up his own nose had pushed into the “queue” for the bar and the bar man had served him, not taking any notice of us who had been there for a good five minutes before the aforementioned person. When my wife brought this to his attention he just said “ok I will see to you next”. Personally, this really annoyed myself. Some other things we noticed was that the Penventon actually seems to back onto a housing estate, but we couldn’t see any mention of that on the site or pictures. This resulted in a lot of noise from the locals whilst we were trying to relax in our room in the evening. No big bother, just something for people to take note on. Other than the above I would like to say that we really enjoyed our stay. It was very relaxing, the staff were (mostly) very friendly and helpful, particularly in the spa, reception, and restaurant area. The food was very nice.

Nice luxury design of place. Pleasant stay in tidy room with very comfy matress. I like that old, solid wooden furnitures are composed in architecture of place so it's like museum, nice to walk and watch the old pieces. Restaurant is very elegant, and food is delicious. Breakfast is partially buffet and menu. There's good choice of hot meals from breakfast menu like full English breakfast, omelettes, pounched eggs on muffin, scotch pancakes, and sweet pancakes with fruits syrup an few more. For buffet: choice of careals, some chocolate careals for kids, cold milk or thick yought and fruits in syrup to go with it. There 3 different kind of bread for toast, which you make yourself and butter, jam and custard croissants. You can try also big choice of homemade jams like: strawberry, raspberry, orange, white plums, blueberry. For it you have pot of tea or coffee per person with warm milk to accompanied. It's good 2+ cups of drink. I like that you can change eggs as for well done instead of pounched, or to be scrambled. It's not a problem. The spa is ok. You get slippers and towel at entrance and there is lockers and showers in changing rooms. 2 saunas : one with higher temperature and second with mild heat and lamps towards your spine. Spa closing at 21:00(Monday to Friday?) but the jaccuzi was closed already at 20:00 so we don't know it's common or only ones happened. Have in mind there is no slippers and bathrobe in rooms so you need to change in spa. If you want to walk to spa without crossing reception, main hall and bar area, there is stairs next to spa which lead straight to upstairs. We found it more convenient to get there. This would be good idea to go with own bathrobe this way. One minus we noticed that tapet in our room needs changing because was little dirty and falling apart in one place. But overall it was very nice stay to treat ourselves.

This maybe a 4 star hotel, but we have had a 5 star service! They couldn't be nicer and more accommodating. Who can come? They are baby and child friendly and dog friendly. Parking Parking is free as long as you are using the facilities or the hotel. The car park is large, but space is not garenteed. Rooms Depending on what you want, the rooms differ in size eg if you need room for children or pets. Rooms come with a TV, radio, fan, ironing board and iron and our room can with a en suit bathroom with toilet, sink, bath and shower. We had a dog with us, so we had French doors that opened to the garden so we could take the dog out. Location The location is beautiful, it's with 30 mins drive (note: Newquay and St Ives are known for lack of parking so maybe look for park and rides) of beaches, there are supermarkets near by and it's only a 5 mins from the A30. The town centre is a 5 min drive and 10-15min walk. There are also lovely wildlife parks nearby drive away like Tehidy, beautiful way to enjoy nature and what it has to offer. Spa The spa is so relaxing, they have a pool, a gym and the massages are well worth the money. Food Although the food menu is "limited" the food is truely exquisite and they will accommodate dietary requirements as well as allergies as best they can, however town isn't far away and you can grab a bite to eat there. They have a restaurant, but the hotel is baby/child friendly and pet friendly and have an area in doors to eat with your pet and a doggy menu. There is also outside seating. The bar The bar is well stocked and if you want it, they have it, along with 150 different gins! The bar manager is very knowledgeable and is an excellent mixologist. They also do teas and coffee.

Absolutely fantastic customer service - right from the very first phone calls with Chloe backwards and forwards to ask about a few things prior to visit and then at check in we were helped with our bags by David the Assistant Manager who was so nice and helpful, nothing was too much trouble he took everything in his stride - even extremely heavy luggage. They helped in finding us a beautiful room for our girly Netflix and Spa weekend away, we stayed in room 241 and it was gorgeous !!!! We then needed a fridge in our room for the snacks we’d brought with us so one of the housekeeping ladies told us it was absolutely no trouble at all and she’d just get us one and was very personable in her chat with us which was lovely. Every single member of staff are an absolute credit to Penventon, every single one was polite and always greeting us in passing, warm and friendly most importantly they all looked really happy to be in work which was really nice and definitely sets the vibe of Penventon. My friend and I both had treatments in the Spa by Hannah and having travelled to many spas across the world I feel confident in reviewing that she is a great therapist and clearly enjoys ensuring a high standard of service. I liked the room it also had a lovely vibe to it with a beautiful hand painted mural on the wall, Hannah made me feel comfortable about changing and not to be worried about that process which can sometimes be awkward. Hannah was very clear that she wanted the massage to be right for me and therefore if her pressure etc wasn’t right she wanted me to tell her - which was refreshing so I wouldn’t have felt uneasy if the pressure needed to change which it didn’t - medium was medium - it was just right. The bed was warmed up with a pad underneath which was nice and it was a nice thought to be told to put my costume and robe on the radiator so when I put it back on it was all warmed up rather than getting a chill.

The decor was gorgeous and really unusual, quite gothic and luxurious..... and the hotel was spotlessly clean - and this is something that I note in the places I stay in - the places that most cleaners routinely miss ... weren’t !

The bed was super comfy, I brought my own pillows and having looked at the pillows they were quite chunky and bulky so I imagine they wouldn’t suit all ..... however I know without a shadow of a doubt if they weren’t right for you then you could ask and get them changed, I think it’d be nice to get them looked at. It was great that everything had protectors on it.

Lovely fresh water bottle in our room with Cornish tea, coffee and hot chocolate - and a couple biscuits 🍪

The food was presented beautifully and the puddings were to die for thank you to our friendly waitress Sarah :-)

I noted that a few staff liked to openly talk about their historical knowledge of the hotel and it’s owner including the beautiful little display cabinet that has lovely old bits of jewellery and trinkets that you can buy from at good prices. I thought it was really nice that the staff knew and imparted this knowledge it led to a further unique boutique hotel style vibe.

We can’t wait to stay again - thank you so much for making a really well needed break so...

Booked a 1st anniversary meal, On arrival the staff were welcoming and the bar and decor were impressive. However the food and service in the dining room was very disappointing, we should have just gone to our local pub instead!! We sat at our table and ordered our food, nibbles, starter and a main course each. We then waited about 40 mins before being served any food, which we thought was too long to serve us our first course of nibbles. Then the nibbles and starters were all served together!! Which was very annoying as we thought they should have been served as two separate courses. I then took a bite into one of my pork bites , they were all cold in the middle so I sent them back. My ham hock terrine was quite nice, but it was served with a weird salsa/ relish that was obviously just from a jar, it was also served with crisps!!! Which for a restaurant of this standard was again disappointing. My partner ordered the crab thermadore starter which was quite nice. I ordered the chicken supreme as a main , but again was disappointed to be told that instead of being served with a rosti as the menu states, i would have to pick either mash or chips as the rostis weren't prepared in time !!. When it turned up the chicken was very very overcooked, I would of sent it back but as I had already sent one dish back, I didn't want to make a fuss and ruin the night. It was served with a crusty/ pastry garlic butter filled Kiev separate to the chicken ( I'm sorry it might be just me, but it really wasn't to my taste), the crust wasn't plesent and the amount of garlic butter that flooded my plate really didn't make for a balanced plate of food. We both ordered desserts which were delicious!! Absolutely nothing to complain about to the pastry chef. ( apart from maybe change the name of your seasonal cheesecake, as coconut and lime isn't seasonal in Cornwall!!) We had previously started a drinks tab in the bar as we spent half an hour having a drink before we were seated, obviously we asked for the tab to be added to our table. After our meal we wanted to finish the evening having a last drink in the bar before we settled up and got our taxi. We were very surprised when we were told that we couldn't leave the dining room to have a glass of wine. The waitress insisted we paid our bill before we sat in the room next door. Every other decent hotel I have ever been in would have allowed us to do this. It would have been nicer and much more professional if we were allowed to continue our tab in the bar ( where we had originally started it) and had our invoice for the evening delivered to us with a card machine for paying. Not once throughout the night did anyone ask us at our table if we wanted another drink ( we had to ask). Not once in the entire night did any member of staff ask if our food was okay. So to summarise to welcome was nice, the bar nd barman were great, the majority of the food and service in the restaurant was very...

I would not recommend this place to anyone!

So due to covid we couldn't go abroad for our honeymoon. So sticking with England I found what looked like the perfect place. Nice rooms even nicer spa, was wanting to relax after a planning a lock-down wedding.

On arrival, we were impressed lobby and bar is lovely!

we were asked to wait a few moments so our room reception had planned for us was ready. this seemed like good news if they have a certain room for us. I was so excited to see the room.

Underwhelmed is not quite right! disappointing was more of the emotion. The room was so tiny! we couldn't even fully open the door! the bed was in the way. so edging into the room with our cases we didn't really have time to change as we wanted to go to the spa and then we had dinner reservations.

The spa............URGH!!!!! .....for a spa that does day passes and the prices of the treatments are a little pricey, I was horrified!!! all the beds where covered in black mold the walls sweating from the terrible ventilation! not 100% the hotels fault but the ventilation looked about 30 years old and never cleaned. Also the hot tub looked the same. it was in a terrible old conservatory type of extension, the chairs are super cheap white plastic BBQ outdoor chairs. Just didn't match the rest of the hotel. Also kids bombing in the pool playing and screaming. Not the relaxing trip I was expecting. The only good thing about the hotel is the staff. They were all lovely.

So second night we did ask to be moved as the room was so hot and small. 2 of us getting ready was a nightmare and the bathroom was smaller sitting on the toilet your knees are basically at the sink.

we couldn't move due to the hotel being full. Fair enough I cant help no rooms available.

2 nights of no sleep due to the room over looking the car park and out door bar area, we had people drinking and we could hear every word of the conversations. Then around 6am we had people leaving for work with a vans reversing beep for a good 5 minuets as the car park isn't the best shape for a larger vehicle to get out of if it is full. 7am arrived and a guy decided to do a conference call outside the window with headphones in and was shouting the whole time.

The third night we were told we can move. to be fair be had a busy day and packing was last thing on my mind. So could not be bothered.

having another sleepless night on check out i did express my concerns again with the lovely staff. she offered a discount which I took. But it wasn't great thinking about it now only £20 off per night was pretty poor it didn't even take it down to the price of the premier inn who have a good sleep policy, and would have had a full refund.

I emailed the hotel the night we got home, still waiting on a reply over a week later.

If you are looking for a relaxing get away, think again and pick somewhere else. Not what the pictures look like, its a hotel...
