On the entrance we were informed the last table inside was already taken (nobody was sat there until we left the place ) and the rest of the cafe was full , so we stayed outside. When ordering drinks we asked for the drink to not be very hot just easy to drink , we could hear from the outside that they were steaming the milk way too much for easy to drink coffee , the milk was already burning from the sound of the steamer. (Yes we are experienced baristas and yes we could hear the steamer outside ) after 15minutes wait our drinks arrived , boiling hot , we burnt our mouth ! We ordered 2 flat whites , and to our disappointment not only they were super hot when we asked for ready to drink, they didn't look anything like flat white, the size of the coffee, everything was just wrong about it. We ate the little chocolate that came with the coffee tried the foam and 1 sip from the"flat white " and then we left. It wasn't drinkable, so we had to go elsewhere to get a proper coffee with a better service. If we could give 0 stars , we would as the service was pretty poor , and the coffee was just a disaster as u can see from the picture attached , looks more like americano , not a flat white . Before we left the place the table inside was still empty, but they wouldn't let us sit there. Interesting. Never again that's for sure and we wouldn't recommend to anyone

As a cafe this place is amazing with the plethora of CHOCOLATE options it gives. The cookie and brownies were amazing simply because of the chocolate and not in the nature of the dessert itself. The chocolate being freshly made there has its added perks to the amazing time a chocolate lover could have here. Coming to the chocolate manufacturing and tasting (in May 2023 - the time I visited it) it costs nearly £10 per person. On the whole the experience was nice - not great - but worth the knowledge for people interested. However the cost to experience and tasting ratio is something I would question, but credit the idea put forth by the staff and workers of the Cocoa works. I would recommend to try it, surely for chocolate lovers, but also for people who are interested in the chemical gastronomy of chocolate or even would like to simply learn about it. I would not recommend it for children as the chocolate is not the sweet type we generally give kids (though it is served as a piece in the platter) it has more of the darker and intense flavours that kids may not like. Personally I loved the experience.

Being in York the home of chocolate decided to visit York Cocoa Works - liked the fact that you could see the staff making the chocolate on site. They do tours for £9.50 Adults £5.50 Kids, but I decided just to try the cafe and browse the chocolate in there shop. Being a fan of the legendary Terry's chocolate orange, I could not resist to try there orange hot chocolate. Was Amazing!!!! and such a bargain for £3.45 plus you get a taster of there chocolate. It's an adult version 50% Orange chocolate, indulgent, silky, creamy and a lovely balance of orange and chocolate. They do various cold and hot drinks, cakes and sundaes using there products. The shop also stocks chocolate and hot chocolate made on site, so you can also take home with you. There is various price points in the shop starting from £2.50 which is very reasonable, knowing that it is made on site and is all high quality products. Some of the other chocolate shops in York are tourist traps with chocolate not even from York, so it was a real joy finding this hidden gem.

Special birthday trip... We hoped for something special and to be surrounded in chocolate ly magic.....

Did not disappoint ! Lots of help getting me and my wheelchair in, discreet adaptations made the trip easy. Large toilet though chest of drawers could do with being moved from behind the doors...

However stunning menu of everything chocolate. The best Spanish hot chocolate I've ever had: thick, rich, just a shade before bitter.... Would totally recommend the afternoon tea for 1 shared between 2. For £13.50 we had a special hot chocolate (priced at £3.95} chocolate truffle on the side... Plus a proper lovely cake stand with chicken wrap, canopies, rarebit, all savoury but with chocolate adding a special flavour. Plus and divine cherry and chocolate scone with cream and jam and taste sizes of the torte and meringue. Absolutely divine and we felt very good value.

For the sheer chocolately birthday fun of it we made a chocolate lolly each. The ritual of choosing toppings, following instructions, shaping and decorating our lolly was really fun. After eating they had set in the fridge and we were given cellophane bag, ribbon and tag to take them home with. £4 sounds a lot for a chocolate lolly but for the time spent entertaining our family and the sheer treat of it all it was well worth it.

A little gem, obviously so much love and knowledge has gone into this place. Definitely recommend and hopefully we...

We had been told that during our stay in York we had to visit Betty's for afternoon tea. I am here to say that I am so glad that we didn't. Skipping the queues and hefty prices from the former, we stumbled upon an alternative option: York Cocoa House! Our tickets were easily booked, and we were welcomed with a smile upon arrival. And can I just say how absolutely blown away my husband and I were by this delightful, total novel experience? For starters, our waitress didn't blink an eye at our request for vegetarian options. Not only that, but it turns out the savoury offerings were incredible and all incorporated chocolate in some form: rarebit with chocolate sprinkles, white chocolate stuffed bell pepper, and some sort of mysterious wrap. Honestly it blew any egg and cress boring sandwich totally out of the water. Couple that with cherry and chocolate scones that I now can only dream about, and the delicious chocolate desserts at the top, and well. I was over the moon with our experience. (And we got two chocolate themed alcoholic drinks, and hot cocoas/coffee to start!)

Trust me when I say this y'all. Skip Betty's. If you like chocolate, go to YCH. If you LOVE chocolate though... you OWE IT to yourself. You...
