I was really disappointed with Frome Museum. I am a private tutor and am trying to encourage my pupil to be interested in history. We had seen the "history of Frome in 100 objects" exhibition advertised and decided to go for a visit as my pupil lives in the area. On arrival I asked the two volunteers at the desk where that specific exhibition was and the woman said something inaudible which I had to ask her to repeat. She pointed down the stairs. I was very disappointed that as to how badly the exhibition was set out. If I hadn't known something of Frome's history my pupil would not have learned anything. The two volunteers did not move from their seats by the front desk, did not offer us any advise and seemed totally disinterested in us. They also had kid’s activities set up that our 9-year-old daughter enjoyed (this was during the Easter holidays so there may not be activities...
Read moreThe first time we visited , several years ago , we met a charming mature couple who were extremely knowledgeable about the history of Frome. They were local enthusiastic volunteers . We were delighted to see a special display about the local hero Jason Button . Also of great interest , to us , were displays of products made in or near Frome eg , the lions on Signal Hill , Cape Town and beautiful gates etc in London . Our second visit was to a more modern museum which was changed and lacked that original warmth and enthusiasm .Even Jason had gone . Pity as he must be of interest to local school children . It is still very interesting and...
