The island is tidal twice a day. Built in 1867 following a suspension bridge was built with the original footbridge ran from 'Rocket Rocks' over to the foot of the newly constructed workmen's sheds on the island. 1st Sep 1868 the Editor of the Tenby Observer receives letter of complaint over 'naked men jumping off it'! Purchased by the Windsor Richards period 1914 ~ 1940. Although this is a historic structure built & housing WWII gun emplacement. 1886 housed 9 guns garrisoned by one hundred men for a Cannon defence purpose. With many traces of the pasts use. It lacks visual evidence apart from a film with fragments put together to create something of a visual experience. The acrid smell of either the fires or the gun powder is pungent. The two rose bowls & pedestrals Medici one of which is depicted here. From 1943 to this day the structure has been witness to many ideas & projects that did not reach fruition. The film location for 2016 Sherlock Holmes 'the final solution' was made here. Funds are being sought for the purpose of development by the custodians of an island that belongs to...

What a quaint place to visit . We booked our stay here for 4 nights its not what I would call a normal camping/ caravan park. It is very retro , as you drive in to it there's an almost a little town of out buildings dressed out with all sorts of vintage bits and pieces . I have never stayed in such a quite campsite, as I've always found them to be loud and over crowded, but here there's a maze of little out crops , or hamlets for 2 or 3 tent/ campers at most . There's only 2 toilets and 1 shower ( where you have to bring a 1 pound coin for it to work) but we never had a problem using either. Will is a gentleman and is always around doing something to the building or maintaining the many flowers and plants, giving it a very quirky but well present venue . Thanks Will , well be back again, ...

What can I say about tenby, it is my all time no1 place to visit and I have been all over the world. Tenby is stunning, amazing and has a special feeling and aura about it. My family and I have been to tenby nearly every year of my life and I'm 62, my parents took us there, I took my children there and now they are taking their children there, it's magical, beaches, bars, food and drink with so much to do in and around tenby for every age group. But take a trip to caldy island on a boat it takes 25 mins to get there but it's such a magical place, nunnery, monastery, shop, cafe, lighthouse etc it's just keeps giving. If any one wants to know more message me it's a great family holiday, amazing.

Unfortunately we didn't get there in time lol, so I couldn't say for sure how good it is up close πŸ˜‚. It was our own fault though as the lovely lady was just heading back up the stairs with the big price sign just as we got there. It looked like a decent walk up and really hoping to be on time during the next visit. Make sure you've got decent shoes on, it's a short walk over the lovely sandy beach to get to the foot of the castle cliff, then a longish looking walk up the stone steps to the top. I can't remember exact prices but it was definitely just enough to cover maintainence on the castle with hardly any profit. Definitely worth a visit to keep this piece of history alive 😊
