I have always enjoyed visiting the Plantagenet House restaurant, normally as a special treat for birthdays and anniversaries, unfortunately on this occasion I had a poor experience, firstly on arrival our party of four where shown to our table which was pushed in tight to the seating area so we were unable to sit on one side of the table, I asked a member of staff if they could help me move the extremely heavy table but was ignored, after our party stood by the table for a few minutes I asked if we could be seated at a different table, we were then begrudgingly moved to a table next to where the waiting staff congregate near the entrance door under a loud speaker which had loud music playing above my head for the whole time, not a great table seeing as there where only by a handful of customers dining in the restaurant and many other vacant tables available, due to the reluctance of the staff not wanting to move us from the first table I dearnt have asked to be moved again. I chose the filet steak, as my main meal I have ordered this many times here and have always enjoyed it, unfortunately this time the meal was stone cold, the garlic butter wouldnât even melt on the steak. I asked the waitress if my meal could be warmed up as I didnât want a replacement meal as this would have spoiled the evening, not being able to eat with my party. After about 10mins the plate returned but unfortunately the meal was still lukewarm, I decided not to complain again as my party where already half way through eating their meals and I didnât want to spoil the evening for everybody else. I hope this was just a one off as I have enjoyed dining in this restaurant many times in the past without issue and have recommend it to many friends...
Read moreWe toiled over whether we should go in or not - we were deterred by the price but after a prolonged vibe check (i.e. menu checking, going to the downstairs bit), we decided to eat here for dinner for our first, and only, night in Tenby.
Nothing really popped out at us on other google reviews and this, in fact, did skip our radar. However, exploring the side streets, and happening upon the cute yellow front and lantern/lightbox this seemed like the go-to place.
Unfortunately we are not made of money so we only got mains and a dessert to share. (cheapest non-vegan main approx ÂŁ30). In retrospect perhaps we should have got two different mains (we ended up getting sea bass risotto), and a lemon curd tart for dessert.
Seabass simply pan fried, but simply delicious. Risotto is something we always question and arenât sure why we do, the added samphire boosted the dish from what could have been bland to a subtly interesting flavour. However the peas and broad beans were slightly overcooked.
Tart was ÂŁ10 but an overall winner. Itâs always nice to have a dessert, if youâre going to come to a more expensive place, then you may as well enjoy yourself ! Very strong acidic kick compensated by the vanilla chantilly cream. Recommend eating as many mouthfuls with a little bit of the fruit and cream to balance all the flavours.
Overall vibe: staff friendly, interesting setting and history and cosy settees downstairs by the fire for an aperitif or post-dinner drink. Lose yourself in the warm and cosy basement (dimly lit, low roof). Vampires...
Read moreWe were booked in for my wife's 50th birthday, as we had been here a few years ago and had a great experience. Upon arrival we were seated fairly promptly, our waitress was really good and attentive. Food wise, the choice was very poor and expensive, we had booked based on the online menu, only to find this to be out of date, the main items were missing. Starters, very small and expensive. Some ordered the octopus, which was a small piece with a drop of sauce, and over £11, you would think if anywhere could serve this right it would be a restaurant in Tenby!! My Parfait was again small and expensive, large mark-up there. Mains were very small, two of us tried the Lemon Sole, which was cooked very well, but, only came with five very small potatoes, and for £24 massively overpriced, because if you were hungry you would probably want two other sided dishes and these were £5 each!! For the prices they should be doing a lot better, all I can think is people who like it are small eaters with money to spend, and want to look at a 12th C fireplace. Music, horrendous, a bit like listening to a group of Zombies trying to play jazz. You almost felt as if you were privileged to get a table! If you do go, eat before hand and enjoy the setting and ambiance, treat the food as an added bonus. If you are looking for a place to have great seafood for a great price look at - The Stone Crab, Saundersfoot. We certainly won't be going back as there is too much better choices in Tenby and the...
