Nestled in the heart of Tottenham is Bruce Castle; a place with plenty of history that dates back to the 16th century. In the museum itself you'll find information centred mostly around the local area - its past, the present and even the foundations of what the future will bring for the borough. Other highlights include a really rather cool looking bike that's been ripped straight out of a Victorian Steampunk novel by H.P. Lovecraft, documents relating to Royal Mail and the connection it has with the castle as well as paintings detailing the many notable faces that inhabited the castle at one time or another. It's not the largest museum by any stretch and you'll probably be able to see everything in an hour or less, but it's a fascinating museum nonetheless. Oh, and it is said that the museum is allegedly haunted by the ghost of one Lady Constantia, wife of the late Lord Henry Coleraine who called the castle home at one time. Having grown tired of her, Lord Henry banished her to a room on top of the castle (just below the clock) where, having had enough, Lady Constantia jumped to her death with her child in tow. Around November time is when her ghost can be seen peering from the window - which adds an extra dimension to an already intriguing museum....

A fine museum of its type. A modest local museum so few treasures as such. It specialises in local history with some very interesting old photos.

There are archeological samples, e.g. pottery. Also a section on Rowland Hill as he used to teach there before his eminent period. Connected to this is a collection of old post boxes. As this is in Tottenham, there is a Spurs section to which I contributed some of my old memorabilia. Give something back if you can.

Another local figure was Luke Howard, blue plaque down the road near the station, who named the types of cloud. Other members of his family were also notable in science and there is a feature on the family.

The museum is set within a park and there is a small shop which has some fine old retro postcard reprints. The building also houses archives including microfiched old newspapers. The museum makes a good attempt at being...

Well Really. How lovely. What a place THIS turnrd out to be! Do you like Labyrinths. Wow! This was something else entirely. To start with, there's NO Castle! And secondly the entrance fees are free. The Castle ( when you finally solve its puzzle ) was only partially built. The Manor here was is the main feature although the Castle Part is fully restored and with 3 foot thick red Tudor or so brick walls. Its 90% a Manor and it's grounds really and that is undergoing rebuilding and or restoration as I type. Huge park here. Professional Staff in the Manor House itself, I was really well impressed with them. Kiddies playroom and all sorts of things. Toilets etc and so on. Mon 28 10 2024. However, avoid the Cafe. = NO! My view. Not what it seems. Not what you think, until you try it. Red flags. Don't say I didn't warn you....

These little local poorly funded museums are probably the type I love most. Yes the curation quality is a bit old an tatty but that adds to the charm for me. The type of local specific gems of history knowledge you get that these places, you wouldn't stumble across anywhere else (such as Alexandra Palace effectively being a prison in WW2). Plus you get all the time in the world to mooch around on a lazy day with no crowds setting your pace for you, such as if in a bigger museum. The building itself is a grade one listed beauty too. Take a look at the lock from inside the toilet on first floor and if a toilet lock is a beautiful as that, imagine what other treasures there are here!

A lovely museum with history about the first world War and other objects like pottery. It also has a nice seating area you can sit in the summer outdoors and there is even the old post boxes outside and a children's play area. It is well worth the visit and it's free to get in. Plus when i went there i was too Exhibitions upstairs. If you want more information there is loads of friendly staff around and a shop you might be able to find a book about the place.
