This used to be the most beautiful graveyard in London until lockdown, when Westminster decided to ruin it by sticking up 6 foot high railings everywhere, along every path (making many graves inaccessible without scrambling over others disrespectfully) and removing all the benches where people could sit, contemplate and remember loved ones. The railings must have cost hundreds or thousands of pounds and will need constant maintenance. What a shocking waste of money to turn a beautiful, serene place into an eyesore, done covertly during lockdown using the feeble excuse that people were parking on the edge of the lawns. The could have put up 10inch bent wire ring or low picket fences if that were true, which I never saw in my 40 years plus of visiting relatives and friends. But not today all the vases have been removed. I went to office to say there's been a theft but no they've all been removed as the powers that be don't want them there anymore..my parents vase was in a back room and returned to me. Don't know why but a sanctimonious cow said Ive worked here 10 years...so what I was livid and let her know. These staff have no right to touch anything of mine or my parents!!!! A groundsman said to my husband he'd worked here over 35 years it's not the same it's got new management this last 5 years and they don't like them as there cold idiots who don't care about grieving relatives.no worker is happy there anymore. Read morePersonally I have always found the staff very helpful and courteous especially when finding a long lost relatives resting place or any concern about a graves condition. Its a big place and needs a lot of management so there will be some problems but the fact you can go to the office and ring a bell and someone will listen, is quite rare these days.
