Beautiful historic meadow. From April to October the meadow is grazed by a herd of Belted Galloway cattle. During these months dogs must be kept on a lead. Some dog walkers resent this, with their usual: "My doggy is a good doggy, a nice doggy and a doggy that never poo-poo's without me pretending I didn't see it". They happily ignore the fact that cows are not intimately acquainted with the personality of every running dog and it can stress them.

As it is ancient meadow, it is best to respect the grass, wildflowers and voles and keep to the path. If you want to picnic, or run around on grass, the Terraced Gardens are just opposite, a 2 minute walk away.

It can be busy on sunny weekends, best get there before noon, or save your visits to weekdays, when you can often stroll across the meadow alone with your thoughts, and a small herd of Belted Galloways, strolling placidly towards the...

It is a sizable, serene meadow that is adjacent to the Thames. Under a leasing agreement, the National Trust oversees the meadows, which are owned by Richmond Council. A new collection of flora is created each year when cows are brought to the meadows to graze. It's best to respect the grass, wildflowers, and voles and stay on the path because it's an old meadow. The Terraced Gardens are directly across the street and only a two-minute walk away if you wish to have a picnic or run on the grass.

On sunny weekends, it can get crowded, so it's best to arrive before midday. Alternatively, you can visit during the week, when you can often walk across the meadow by yourself and think....

Beautiful autumnal weather for a cycle ride along the Arcadian towpath to Hampton Court Palace. Usually the noisy planes are flying over every 45 secs polluting the air but since Covid the air has become a lot cleaner and quieter. Can't see how we can ever meet our climate change obligations if the airport is allowed to reach its pre Covid air traffic levels.? The towpath cycle route to Hampton Court can be shortened considerably by road via Hampton wick, strawberry Vale and then Twickenham. I chose this route on the way back to save some time as the traffic was...
