Many people at T3 who have the appropriate One World status will often plan ahead and leave a little time to do a lounge-crawl at T3. Those trying out the various lounges tend to rate this Qantas Lounge and the Cathay Pacific lounges as must-visits, whilst rating the T3 BA and AA lounges rather poorly. For my Monday morning QF10 departure, the lounge was nowhere near at capacity and it was easy to find a table downstairs to dine and enjoy a ham Eggs Benedict and coffee before my flight. The menu also featured Qantas' signature Salt & Pepper Squid. I also had the time to explore the less formal buffet and bar area upstairs where there were plenty of choices and certainly a much better quality breakfast than I experienced on-board during my flight to Perth. The upstairs bar in the Qantas Lounge provides excellent barista-made coffees (a major step up from self-serve coffee machines found in other lounges l) as well as alcohol service. I wonder if Qantas' approach may help avoid customers tanking-up and causing mischief on flights? It's something I've certainly witnessed in BA lounges resulting in some awkward in-flight situations. I've also flown from this lounge in the evening during busy Qantas A380 departures and there is still plenty of space and a reasonably serene atmosphere. BA could learn a lot from Qantas when it comes to how their lounge staff engage, how they appear pro-actively helpful as well as presenting a genuinely friendly disposition. By contrast, BA's T3 lounge feels more like a 1990s IBM office. Other airlines could also learn from the contemporary interior design and general ambiance of this lounge. This Lounge is not quite as spectacular as the Qantas First Class International lounge at Sydney, but as a combined Business / First lounge, it's probably one of the best in the world and I highly recommend it if you're travelling out of T3 on a OneWorld airline in...
Read moreHad an appalling experience here from a very rude woman at the front desk. We are on honeymoon and purposely bought a qantas club membership to utilise the facilities. We did our due diligence and read all the conditions of entry, rules, etc. importantly, on the qantas website it states that qantas club members, and one accompanying guest, can use the qantas lounge in Heathrow if they have an emirates flight number.
She proceeded to say we were wrong, show us her booklet which states something slightly different then we showed her the webpage which says something different again. She then made us wait for 10 minutes while she reviewed the webpage, acknowledged that what we were reading in the terms and conditions was correct and let us in.
Now, it’s not her fault that she had different info than we did, but as the public facing info should be the one taken as rules as that’s what everyone has access too. And it would have been great if we could have had it without the horrible attitude she gave us like we were scum and trying to scam her! She even gave us a lecture about how qantas doesn’t earn money from our flight because it’s an emirates (we’re flying qantas for the next leg and paid a $600 membership fee for qantas club!!).
Then to top it all off, after she let us in she came to find us afterwards to say she was right, that she found the info and we aren’t actually allowed in but she’ll let us stay. I can’t find the info she is referring to and I’ve looked pretty hard. If you have to go digging that hard to keep paying customers out maybe it’s all not really worth it.
Anyway, the tldr is that this really ruined the last travel part of our honeymoon. Our experience with this lounge and qantas in general has been so disappointing. We would love to support our national carrier but we and everyone should really consider if travelling qantas...
Read moreThis is a spectacular lounge, that’s no doubt. Firstly however, the elephant in the room. If you are OneWorld Emerald member, i.e. top tier and therefore have access to the Cathay Pacific first lounge, Cathay is better. It is my personal favourite and the dedicated first class facilities and a-la-carte dining, I believe are a better option in this lounge.
That being said this lounge is spectacular. If this lounge was in any other terminal at Heathrow, apart from T3, in other words not in the same terminal as the Cathay Lounge, it would be hands down the best choice. This lounge is fantastic, almost without fault, easily the second best lounge in all of Heathrow. The staff are friendly on the front desk, the Lounge Décor itself is nice and tastefully modern, however the runway views and windows could be slightly nicer and are no march for Cathay. The lounge has a beautiful marble drinks bar great for getting cocktails especially gin. The buffet food selection on offer is fantastic with a substantial amount of good quality food and a good range especially at breakfast time. The seats are comfortable and the lounge is fairly big with a really nice ambience and vibe. All in all, this is a spectacular Lounge it’s almost without fault, but the fact that it’s perched right next door to probably the greatest lounge in all of Europe, means it’s slightly outshined. If you are a business class passenger or OneWorld Sapphire then it may be up to personal choice as to which you prefer, this Qantas lounge or the Cathay business class lounge. However if you are a OneWorld Emerald member or travelling first class, then the Cathay lounge is...
