Very unwelcoming manager (I presume).
I was travelling alone and was brought to a high table which I was asked if I minded, I didn’t. But soon, i realised d I needed to charge my phone (digital boarding pass!). I asked if I could swap tables to other high tables with a charger (presumably because there were no normal tables) but was told it was closed. As I was asking this, the manager looked at me with such disdain. I could see some normal tables with plugs in and asked to sit there and the serve kindly obliged saying he would just have to clean them. I sat down and the manager immediately came over and looked me up and down with such disgust and said to the server loudly that I would have to sit in the two person table (which I was pointing to, it was just not clean yet and I couldn’t fit in with my large bag). I have never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant before! It’s a pretty normal thing to request a seat with a plug when you’re travelling in an airport!
In addition to this, I was craving a chocolate milkshake and it was advertised boldly at this restaurant. I was told they didn’t have this and only one flavour of shake available. If they hadn’t had it splattered all over their restaurants it wouldn’t have been a big deal.
Very slow on taking your order and bringing the bill too. The food comes fast and that’s about it. Ironic since it seems they spent the whole time worrying about their tables and rushing you in and out at all the...
Read moreI didn't feel like there was a great option for food here. Because you have to go through security every time you change terminals, I wasn't willing to go to another terminal during my 7 hour layover. Most of the restaurants were out in the open in the center of the terminal where it is loud and full of people and you feel like you're eating on a stage. I didn't want that many people breathing and spitting and eyeballing my food. This option had some privacy. There were a lot of people working as servers here but the service still wasn't as efficient as the guests would like. Three servers came to the hostess stand while I was waiting to be seated without speaking to me. I simple, "hi, the hostess will be right with you," would've been nice. Instead I felt ignored. Then I was told they were out of 4 things and the list wasn't comprehensive. I ordered a shake later and was informed they also had no ice cream. The shakes were being advertised by a large sign outside the restaurant too. I ordered fish and chips and it was good. I really appreciate all the condiments left on the table. I enjoyed the malt vinegar and salt. I saw the "virgin mint mojito," on the menu and asked if they'd make me a regular mint mojito. They did have rum in another drink, but I was told no. Weird. So, it was an okay experience, not terrible but also...
Read moreA Lifesaving Act of Kindness at Spuntino - Heathrow T3
Traveling alone internationally with two toddlers can be overwhelming, but what happened at Spuntino in Heathrow’s Terminal 3 truly restored my faith in humanity.
After a long flight from Washington, we had a 13-hour layover. My two young kids were exhausted and very hungry. I placed an order at Spuntino, only to realize—right after—that my credit card wasn’t working, and I wasn’t carrying enough cash. Panic set in, and I wasn’t sure what to do next.
That’s when Sezie De Souza, a staff member at the restaurant, stepped in. She quietly picked up the check herself and paid for our meal—without hesitation and without making a fuss—so that my children could eat.
I was completely overwhelmed by her kindness and generosity. In a busy airport, where everyone is rushing and stressed, she showed true compassion and humanity.
Spuntino is lucky to have someone like Sezie on their team. I will never forget her kindness, and I hope this message reaches her and the team to let them know just how much it meant.
If you’re ever in Heathrow T3, visit Spuntino—not just for the food, but because it’s a place with heart.
With deepest gratitude, —A grateful parent and...
