this is my 2nd year staying with scape, this yearâs experience is absolutely terrible compared to last year. most (not all) staff has become very unwelcoming and stand-offish to residents and visitors.
one of the rudest receptionist being this old man who clearly isnât suited being a student accommodation receptionist/worker. earlier this year, we got into an altercation. my boyfriend, who isnât a resident, and i walk into the building and he saw us and began to tell my boyfriend, who is a visitor to sign in. however, initially, i did not understand what he was referring to and as we stood by the reception looking confused, he began to raise his voice and making it even more difficult to understand him. he began shouting and being extremely agitated with us simply by asking him questions. we did as he told but he would not stop shouting until i tell him to calm down. when i say, âyou donât have to shout and be all angry, this is very simple matter. just explain calmly.â he replied, âdid i shout?â with his tone changed immediately, completely dismissing his poor attitude. i even turn around to other residents to confirm i was not being insane for pointing out his tone and behaviour. a similar situation occur to one of my friend who is also a resident, he was telling off my friend for something that has always been allowed, in an anger manner on the day she moved in, when it could be communicated calmly.
secondly, the accommodation staff had been entering rooms without permission and would remove your items unwillingly. they have implied rules such as not allowing hooks. i have a lot of things and i donât think it is ridiculous or disruptive of me to want to use hooks. plus i have placed them on glass or plastic surface where hooks can be removed without traces or residue of tape. they think itâs a great idea to imply said rules and enter your room without prior notice of a specific time and date (they only told you a designated week where maintenance team will come in any time during that week) and proceed to enter my room, remove all my hooks and kept them (even mentioned how 10 pound would be charged per hooks). i only realised they have entered my room after a long day back from university, and this has left me anxious and frustrated as it seems as though they are not respecting your personal space and items.
another scenario occurred recently which has left me furious - the accommodation decided it was a great idea to conduct a flooring upgrade during term time in February. we are asked to vacate our room from 8am to 6pm and remove all items placed on the floor 2 days before maintenance would happen. i guess they expect us to be extremely free and comply on their terms and conditions whenever theyâre up for it. i was notified about this on sunday and the maintenance is conducted on a wednesday. when i come home on a wednesday morning at 9am (i was away for 2 days), all my items had been moved and some were placed in the communal corridor?!?!??? i understand it was on my behalf to not be more as well-prepared as i could be but what boggles my mind was this worker was blasting music out loud from my speaker on my table. this guy went missing for the entire 50 minutes that i was there. as i tried to put everything away (especially those in the corridor), he returned. he gave me the most passive aggressive apology and proceeded to have an attitude as if he wasnât being disrespectful?!?!? the craziest thing is if i didnât walk in at that time, these people could really do whatever they want in your room and get away with it since i am sure they are workers hired externally, and no scape staff was there to monitor them either. these are rooms full of studentsâ personal items. clearly the management and these external workers scape hired has no respect again for studentsâ privacy and their belonging.
not to mention, i have yet received my deposit from last year....
Read moreInternet connection keep disconnecting to my devices, I have called the internet provider several times but it does not help much. Considering how expensive it is to live here, the services provided aren't to the level.
They threw several of my things during other people moving out even tho they stood with "keep me stickers", this has cost me a significant amount of money. There should be posters saying when they'll come into our living space to throw things out. They came in at a random time without any notice and now I'm missing essential things. It's really disheartening to live in a place where your belongings aren't safe.
They often inspect your room which makes it hard to make this place feel like a home. The living area is uncomfortable to relax in and staff comes in often. Would not recommend staying here for a long period. It's nice as a place before you find your own apartment but it's extremely expensive in comparison to other better accommodations in the area. You just need to find friends to move in with.
The management can be quite uncomfortable at times, and several other people I've talked with has had the same complaint.
Some staff members in reception gossip about private residents to other residents as well, meaning living here is a risk of breach of privacy/safety.
Already talked with Management, (who will probably respond to this post, but was met with no resolution to the matter, warmth or accommodation quite on the contrary.
Some of the rooms are lovely tho, I would not recommend any of the bigger suits tho as the water spills all over the floor but the more medium rooms are really cozy and nice.
Know you can get better and more for your money than what scape has to offer. They do everything they can to save money, so the rooms can get very cold in winter time. The bathroom lights are automatic, meaning if you need to use the toilet at night time your flooded with super bright cold lights.
The Kitchen stove is very hard to use, due to time saver and boosting mechanism which leads to burning the food and things flooding over.
Elevators break down weekly and sometimes you'll have to wait for several minutes, the elevator even will go past you as there's something wrong with the coding. This never gets properly solved, no matter how many times the residents complain. The outside area is not as advertised, it hasn't been available for a year due to construction, which went on for over a year.
Washing machines are dysfunctional and extremely expensive to use, over 4 pounds per wash and 4 more for drying, with the centrifuge not functioning well on any of them. They're also not cleaned properly, so you will find hair and dirt in them.
If you're a foreign student I get why you'd choose scape as a safe place to get to know London, but I would recommend finding something other as soon as you can. There are other places with reception and security staff that are more affordable and overall better accommodation where you have your own washing machine, ability to heat your room as wanted, functional kitchen, and comfortable living room. Plus more fun...
Read moreI usually donât write negative reviews, but this time I felt I couldnât just stay quiet.
Unfortunately, my experience here was quite unpleasant for a few reasons:
Staff: I donât understand why the staff feels the need to be so rude to students. Aside from Carolina, everyone really needs to be more considerate and dial down the attitude. While I wonât mention specific names, Iâm sure those responsible know who they are, especially if you read other reviews. As someone who also works in customer service, I can confidently say this is not how it should be done. Since customer service is their job, I donât see why I felt afraid to approach them. One situation stands outâmy rent was delayed due to international banking issues, and despite explaining this and having a good payment history, I was treated very poorly. The constant questioning and even being kicked out of my room TWICE was excessive. It was so bad that my father sitting in another country had to take matters into his own hands because of the way this one woman at reception was talking to me. I understand the staff has to do their job, but their rudeness made me dread even passing by reception. I hope they can be more understanding and kind toward students, who are often dealing with a lot both personally and professionally. We come from far away and shouldnât be treated this way.
Noise: I understand Scape can't control outside noise, but someone shouldâve been upfront when I asked before moving in. Additionally, the ongoing internal construction has been disruptive. During my stay, carpets were pulled up during term time, and we were given short notice to vacate our rooms for an entire day. This caused significant inconvenience, especially with university assignments. Better planning and communication would have helped.
Lifts: Out of the three lifts, one is always out of order. They are slow, and sometimes thereâs a strange odor.
Room: I stayed in room 2005, a medium studio with a view of the stadium. The external construction noise, starting as early as 7 am, made it impossible to get proper rest or work in peace. The lack of ventilation was another issueâdespite the grill outside the window, it barely opened, and there was no exhaust over the hob. Every time I cooked, I had to leave the main door open to get rid of the smell, which was highly inconvenient. The bathroom was also uncomfortable, with strange smells and a constantly malfunctioning flush.
Overall, my stay was difficult, and even my guests complained about the conditions. In fact, some stopped visiting, which was incredibly embarrassing for me.
This place has a lot of potential, but it desperately needs management to address these issues and make real...
