If you want to risk a lump of your hard-earned cash by chancing whether you actually get a properly working kart on the day, forget it.
My kart (#123) was a DMAX in a D40 Open race at Milton Keynes last Saturday. In one of my previous visits to Daytona, I also had doubts about the kart's health, though it wasn't quite so terrible as this time, so I wasn't so sure and just grudgingly bit the bullet, hoping for better luck in future. These karts are awesome... when they work properly!
Not just me either. I suggest you also check out the recent review by YY403 on Trustpilot - his kart behaved exactly like mine it seems.
The overall Daytona review score on TP is bad (2.8/5) so I'd suggest you take the conflicting tide of 'glowing' reviews here on Google's site with a pinch of salt! (not that they're all not genuine of course). Strange there's such an overwhelming disparity between the two review sites - statistically implausible I'd say.
And don't expect any proper customer service when you rightly complain, in spite of all the hollow rhetoric. (see the response to YY403 on TP for example).
First, I had to politely pester for days just to get the link to my video (which I paid extra for) sent to me.
Then, I sent the video link in an email about the kart performance, citing it as clear evidence that the kart was faulty. This was now my main reason for wanting it.
It's more than obvious to anyone just from the engine sound in the video. All my lap times were also appalling (and not just down to my amateurish driving). It ruined my day (at great expense too!).
I was then told in a short reply email by Anthony Brennan, 'Front of House Manager' at Milton Keynes Daytona, "Sorry I'm not very good with karts or engines personally but I will forward this onto our track Manager to look into." Fair enough...
However, I've had no further contact from anyone since then (after another 3 days a.t.o.w.), in spite of another polite reminder from me.
I can accept that even with their best intentions things will still go wrong occasionally. However, what's inexcusable is this lack of customer service that follows when they do.
Unless I now get some 'real' customer service, an apology and either a full refund or a free race in a properly working kart, I will never be going there again. For these prices we have a right to expect only the very best at all times.
My son also hasn't had any response to his email asking when his trophy pic would be posted on their FB site.
Come on guys, you really do need to up your game, not merely send out empty promises. This is enough from me for now. To be fair, there is also a lot that's good and right. It's such a shame when that's all badly let down like this.
EDIT: An update... After I emailed various people at Daytona, I received some phone calls and emails from senior people and was told they'd investigate further.
Whilst I've since heard no findings about the kart performance that day, they did kindly offer me a race credit, which I respect & thank them for. It's likely impossible to fully analyse a kart from the recorded race stats alone. Similarly, any actual kart problems could come and go over time.
Anyway, I felt they gave me the benefit of any doubt at least and now handled the situation fairly and professionally.
I returned to the circuit again soon after for another DMAX D40 Open race. The kart did seem better this time, though still not perfect IMHO. I made several bad errors in my driving, so I can't draw a full like-for-like comparison between the two karts & events. Overall though, my times were better.
I acknowledge it simply can't be possible, even with the best efforts, to ensure all karts are absolutely identical in setup & performance for every race, such are the numerous variables at play. However, I'd expect the random allocation of karts to drivers should at least add some fairness to the competition, albeit if the karts can vary a bit.
Hopefully, my driving will keep improving and the karts will be on their best...
Read moreWe are a group of guys who love karting, and will say that I’ve had a terrible experience with Daytona and currently in the process of taking them to court, this is how our story unfolded, bring us to this current point! We booked the 24 hour race which was due in may and the agreement with them was to pay them over four payments to a total of £2700. I paid three payments and the final payment was due at the end of March and unfortunately for us and the rest of the world, we were in the start of the pandemic and were put into lock down, I emailed Daytona explained that due to everything I didn’t make the final payment and was sure the race would not take place, The 1st email I received from them stated they would not do a refund then as you can imagine I started to panic and asked what’s the options, to which Daytona confirmed that we would have credits, however due to the prices of the races rising by Daytona everyone wanted the money back which you all can imagine due to a lot of people being out of work, and struggling to survive in the current Climate! I’ve had several emails from Jon Spence/ Charles Graham refusing to return our money! Stating I’ve already agreed an alternative agreement for the credits! Anyway guys you get the just of everything but one thing that I can promise is that I will never set foot on a track controlled by Charles Graham/ Daytona. The amount of stress and mental health that this is doing to me is unbearable, especially everyone calling me as you can imagine £270 pounds is a lot of money to each member, paying for a solicitor, going to court, I could really do without all this stress but Daytona couldn’t give a monkeys about me or any of my group and to make you laugh Charles Graham has posted a video on you tube saying how much the members have trust in them, I can assure you i don’t trust you nor a word that comes out of your mouth! I will be posting everything on Facebook, Twitter and all other social media platforms including your emails until you return our money or the judge makes you return our £2000 pound!
All Racers I advise you to race elsewhere...
Read moreI just wanted to write to say, Thank You.
Having been involved in karting since 1993 with indoor, outdoor, hire karting, owner driver karting and even did a spell writing for Karting magazine, it probably shouldn’t have been a surprise, when my son was desperate to turn 6, so that he could try his hand at karting! Fast forward to January and I was shocked to learn that apart from purchasing your own kart, there is very little out there for 6 and 7 year olds. Thankfully I soon realised that you provided facilities for the little ones.
On January 13th, Jack had his first proper taste of karting at Daytona Milton Keynes. He completed the modules, got his certificate and has done quite a few practice sessions already! If the truth be told, I was quite sceptical about attending due to previous bad experiences at other venues many, many years ago.
What can I say, from the moment we arrived, I found ALL your staff to be friendly, helpful, & efficient. The facilities are great and the food is delicious. The karts are well prepared and the events run smoothly. Most importantly, I have had this experience on every single visit. I’ve promised Jack 4 practice sessions a month, which we’ll likely cover over a 2 or 3 day period every month. (providing he continues to do well at school etc – ahhh, child bribery! Haha) So I think its safe to say that you will now have a new regular ;)
I would like to give special mention to the following, who really went that extra mile for us. Luke – Marshall on Bambino track – Jack calls him his race engineer… hahaha Jay – Not sure his job title, but Jack calls his the boss! Ethan – Works at the food counter – Jack calls him the best chippy cooker ever haha
Like I said, everyone has been great, but those three really did make things a bit more special for us.
Thank you &...
