Russian Orthodox Church — Attraction in Manchester

In this Russian Orthodox Christian church there is a small russian language school for children which is hold by enthusiasts teachers. The lessons are free of charge. Some of the parents during the lessons stay in the kitchen and discuss various topics. This "kitchen" type of conversations while having tea and coffee is very informal and very traditional for Russians. The lessons normally take place on Saturdays and followed by prayers and singing involving children who are old enough to behave themselves in the main church hall. Sundays' services normally followed by dinner cooked by the women from congregation. Everyone can bring their own dish so it's like a little cooking competition. This place serves not only religious purposes but also unites Russian community which is quite small...

This is a great Church and community. The Liturgy is in Slavonic, but the readings and principal prayers are sung in Slavonic, English, and Romanian. I have been travelling through Manchester and will continue to do so for the next few months, and although I won't be settling here, I will continue to come to the Pokrov Church as long as I am able.
