Why try to fix something that ain’t broke. This is typical city these days. Trying to increase revenue from fans and visitors. You should make it abundantly clear when booking, that the tour will be self guided. It seems you are doing this to increase footfall and compete in numbers with other clubs. The tours with guides are way way better. Local passionate people, who love their job, add warmth, humour and facts. Visitors want to hear from guides, not sit staring soulless at a tablet with headphones in. Those same guides from months ago are now stood waiting to be receptive. They must be so disillusioned with this new format. They are guides for a reason. To inform and entertain surely ? One guide we saw, we remembered him from two years ago. Funny, intelligent story teller. Today, he looked frustrated at being no more than a point of contact if needed. For our party of five, as soon as we entered we were told it was self guided. Instant disappointment. A 5 minute dehumanising conversation about the tablet and the route. Straight away, as soon as we put earphones in, instant disengagement with family. Different time points for different people. The group quickly segregated, hardly any interaction with each other. So for the first 25 mins, negativity, slowly becoming more enjoyable as we reached the changing rooms and pitchside. By that time we’d binned the tablets, we reassembled as a group, talking and chatting. We made a point of engaging with the guides. Enjoyed their snippets of info. We also gave feedback. If you are going to continue self guide tours, offer that a lower price. £10-£15. Guided tours £25 and in peak times. For a club that strives to be best in class in all departments, this feels like you’ve just relegated your tour guides...
Read moreWasn't sure what to expect with this stadium tour, and I came away very impressed.
I'm a Leeds United fan, but Man City achieved something really special last year and we wanted to see behind the scenes of where that happened.
A huge thank you to Chris H and Nathan for being our hosts on the tour (and not kicking me out when they found out I was from Leeds!)
They were prepping for a UCL game that evening but the tour wasn't affected. If anything it added to the tour - knowing in a few hours time the stadium would be alive with the treble winners playing Copenhagen!
During the tour we were able to sit in the stadium seats whilst we heard the history of the stadium. The lovely Chris pointed out fun facts about the stadium (including which players had boxes in the ground) We then went back inside to see the gym and the home teams changing room. Here we had more facts about the club and how Pep runs his changing room. We also watched a short video about City. We then took the same walk that the players do on match day, go through the famous tunnel and out onto the pitch side. We even got to sit in Peps seat!
We then went back inside to see the media suite and we had a special guest join by the power of AI. (I won't ruin it)
I'd thoroughly recommend the tour and Chris H and Nathan. We recieved 10% off purchases at the City store as a thankyou for taking on the tour.
The Ethiad is accessible to all, lifts on every level and the concourse (inside and out) is flat and very easy to get round. I am surprised to be writing this, but I think I'll be...
Read moreOur tour started on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Our guides, Nathan and Dave, were truly outstanding, making the experience memorable. The tour itself was remarkable, offering us a chance to sit in the players' dressing rooms, learn about the club's history, and enjoy engaging stories from Nathan that nearly convinced me to become a supporter myself. As a parent of a fervent Manchester City fan, I was somewhat reluctantly in attendance, but I found the tour thoroughly enjoyable.
The interactive elements were a hit, especially for the kids, who were invited to simulate a player's entrance through the tunnel while we cheered them on. The highlight for many was the hologram of Pep Guardiola, where they could sit as if participating in a press conference.
The value of the tour extends beyond mere entertainment, providing a deep insight into the operational side of the club. Being pitchside and sitting in the players' seats were standout moments.
In short, the experience was excellent, and I would happily do it again.
A useful tip for future visitors: the tour includes a 10% discount at the club store. While our tour ended after the store had closed on Sunday, we were able to use our discount the following morning by showing our tour tickets from...
