Maine Road Chippy — Restaurant in Manchester

If I could give zero stars, I would.

I’d just come out of a concert, completely alone, with 1% battery left and no way to get home unless I could charge my phone for literally two minutes. I went into this chip shop and explained the situation to the two girls behind the counter — they smiled and nodded, completely understanding.

Then, out of nowhere, some random guy comes stomping out from the back and barks, “Did you ask?” I said, “Did I ask what?” — genuinely confused. Before I could even finish speaking, he cuts me off and starts having a go, saying I didn’t ask him and to unplug the charger and leave. Apparently the plug was “dodgy” — okay, fair enough — but there was absolutely no reason to speak to me the way he did.

He could’ve just politely said, “Hey, that plug’s a bit dodgy — would you mind unplugging it? Also, are you planning to order something?” Like a normal person. Instead, he chose to be rude, confrontational, and completely out of line for no reason.

Luckily, I had cash and card on me, and even more luckily, there were taxis outside picking people up — which I hadn’t even realised at first. If not for that, I would've been stranded. All I needed was two minutes and a bit of understanding — instead, I got attitude and hostility for absolutely no reason.

I left without buying anything, and I won’t be back. If this is how they treat people in vulnerable situations — when a tiny bit of human decency would’ve made all the difference — then they don’t deserve anyone’s business. Awful experience. Avoid at all costs.

The chips probably taste like their customer service: cold, greasy, and unwanted. And to the guy from the back — power-tripping over a plug socket doesn’t make you important, it makes...

My wife and I work nights, this is the best place to go in the morning when you've done 3 nights you're exhausted and you want good food that isn't your usual breakfast stuff. Sal even said if we give him a shout he'd get the fryers on early for us. Thats the service, the food 👌🏻. Everythings branded from the sausages, to the rolly polly. Today I asked to swap out a couple of elements of my breakfast and I was legitimately probably given more than I would have had. My wife ordered a burger and it was thick! Three bacon in there, salad, cheese. Held together really well and just looked amazing! Best cafe food we've found in Manchester. Thank you for making the end of our working week something to look...

Absolutely fuming placed on order this evening paid by card no delivery first time I've ordered food on line just fancied an English chippy , now I've got to wait till tomorrow so I can get my money back livid....... so need to alter my review rang this morning the young lad very helpful wasn't their fault they were actually closed the order shouldn't of gone through that said I've redone my order and am looking forward to trying it .customer service...
