The Heavy horse drawn canal barge, is a pleasant trip and runs twice a day. There is a static Tea barge, selling food and drink with plenty of seating both inside the barge and bankside. The car park is pay and display with toilets, and is just one minute away up a staircase, to the canal and barge. The canal itself is absolutely stunning, it's simply beautiful. It's 11 miles is easy walking or cycling along it's wide gravel path, so no need for walking boots or walking shoes. Take a camera with you, there's a photograph everywhere you look. It's also a very well maintained clean canal, with plenty of wildlife, and plenty of benches and picnic areas to observe it by. And just before you get back into the car, grab a cup of tea and a cake from the tea garden at the end of the car park. Once you're homewood bound, you can reflect on a great day out...

Lovely place to walk and enjoy the sunshine and wildlife. The play area is fun, clean and safe. Canal tearooms below and separate from the canal, are great fit lunch, tea, coffee and ice creams. Highly recommended for a relaxing time in the fresh air. The area is patrolled and kept clean and pleasant. We also went on the Barge, pulled by shire horse Ross. A lovely peaceful way to see the canal, learn about its origins, and enjoy a beer, ice cream, or old fashioned fizzy drink. All local made. A fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Highly recommended. Pictures show the barge bar, and Ross about to...

Lovely, level, off-road cycle along the canal. We did the whole route, including a loop of the old railway line at Tiverton, which was 26 miles, but lots of shorter routes possible with good access from car parks along the canal. We started at Lowdwells Lock and rode to Tiverton and back, stopping for a picnic, tea and cake in the Canal Tea Room (nice - see separate review) and a cheeky pint in the pub on the way back. A very easy cycle with lots to see. Care must be taken as the path is shared with walkers, anglers and the horse-drawn barge but it's a scenic route which suits a relaxed pace. A...

Went here yesterday on 17th August with a group of 11 of us, to enjoy an outing with several Birthdays, together. Having a horse drawn barge experience was all part of that too. A wonderful gentle (step out of the rat race) moment to enjoy too. The facilities and service across the site are great and personable. There are floating cafe barges, tea rooms, a retail/souvenir shop, a visitor centre and toilet facilities, as well as the large horse drawn barge to take in. All great and the actual ride experience is serene and pleasant...with the bar run by the welcoming Sue on the barge is marvellous too.
