Chippenham Playing Fields — Attraction in Monmouth

This park is the best place in Monmouth for a picnic. I decided to honour its name by only bringing chips and ham to the picnic blanket. My friends, who are staunch vegans, were far from impressed. Obviously, the chips went down well (even though I kept it to myself that they were deep fried in the best beef dripping) but the ham was untouched. Fields are ok, though often have rubbish left on them. The park is completely unfit for purpose. I grew up playing on it and frequently encountered drug paraphernalia and litter. The proximity to the dual carriageway is laughable. All the equipment becomes grimy with pollution, it's noisy, and does not feel in keeping with the lovely town of...

The grounds are nice enough, but the playground is appalling. It's old and tatty, but worse still it's right next to a dual carriageway with huge lorry's rushing right past you and your children. For a town associated with an area of outstanding beauty I would've hoped for better. We won't be making that "playground...
