Bedrooms recently refurbished in this Grade 2 listed building, housekeeping excellent, only you have to use a nearby cafe for Breakfast. The Pub Kitchen offers dinner but the weekend we were there, the Kitchen closed at 7 pm. Large outdoor seating area in paved square to side of pub. Beers well kept and a good selection. Live bands at weekends. 16th Century Monmouth as a town has seen better days, many closed shops, the big houses and estates are snapped up by the wealthy, who use them as second homes, forcing out the young local population. Being Wales, the locals are very friendly and chatty. The local Cinema / Theatre is a joy called the 'Savoy Theatr' (that's how it's spelt in Wales) It been saved from closure an run by a Trust. It needs your financial support if you visit!

We stayed here for 2 nights with our dog Arlo. The staff were amazing, it was truly dog friendly. We think the staff preferred Arlo to us. 😅 This is our second visit to the Punch House. It’s a really good local pub with great pub grub. Our room was huge and had plenty of space for the hound. The staff were so kind and friendly. We were genuinely bowled over how kind and thoughtful everyone was. We love coming to monmouth and this is the first time we bought the dog. Great local walks and good restaurants. Will 100% be back. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Great visit here in July 2024. We were walking Offas Dyke and had booked to stay after walking the leg from Abergavenny.

On arrival the landlady greeted us, despite being mucky and smelly from our 22 mile hike, and having an equally wet and muddy dog among us, we were made extremely welcome. It was a midweek day and we arrived fairly late (20:00) so the kitchen was shortly closing, we ordered our food while a staff member went and bagged us a table and put a dog bed from the stack next to the front door under it, along with some water and dog treats.

We went up and settled in while food cooked, we were given towels for the dog once we'd washed him off and really made to feel welcome.

The food was great and a beer was equally good, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening in the bar which had a nice atmosphere.

The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. mutt included. It's not 5 star luxury but it's a really nice comfortable place to sleep with good food at a sensible price, and it was exactly what we needed during our week of hiking.

The only minus point for me was they advertise breakfast but it's room service which I hate ( I find eating in your room just weird), as the bar is not open in the morning. This should have been made clear on booking so we could line something else up ahead of time. In the event I phoned a contact who runs a fishery on our walking route that day and he had some lovely cooked breakfasts for us after we'd got an hours walking...

As a frequent visitor to Monmouth, I recently had the pleasure of visiting Punch House and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with my experience.

Firstly, the location of Punch House is ideal. It is situated in the heart of Monmouth, making it easily accessible to both locals and tourists alike. The exterior of the building is inviting and the interior is tastefully decorated, providing a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

The staff at Punch House are exceptional, providing top-notch service and hospitality. They were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks on offer. The drinks menu was extensive, offering a wide range of options to suit all tastes. I particularly enjoyed the selection of cocktails, which were expertly crafted and served with flair.

In terms of food, the menu at Punch House was impressive. The dishes were creative, well-presented and delicious. I appreciated the use of locally sourced ingredients, which added an extra level of freshness to the dishes. The portion sizes were generous and the prices were reasonable, considering the quality of the food and drinks.

Overall, I would highly recommend Punch House to anyone looking for a great night out in Monmouth. The combination of great food, excellent drinks, and exceptional service makes for an unforgettable experience. Whether you're looking for a casual night out with friends or a romantic dinner for two, Punch House is the...

Food okay.... service indifferent

Popped in here this afternoon for a light repast as I occasionally do.... approximately 2:15 pm. Service was rather abrupt and I had to order immediately as they wanted to close the kitchen! No choice of beer at the bar, they had only one on tap! I quickly perused the menu and ordered the all day breakfast, whereupon I was asked to pay immediately and was rather rudely refused opening a tab by the female bar keep. Had definitely been allowed a tab here in the past. Subsequently discovered that other people were being allowed tabs. Maybe it's because I was dressed casually? Never like paying for food before I've even seen it, doesn't bode well. The breakfast turned out okay however and was quite tasty. Cutlery seemed a little stained to my eye, probably had been through a dishwasher cycle but it didn't inspire confidence. The young lady server in spectacles was polite and helpful. Was intending to have 3 drinks and maybe a dessert but thought in the circumstances I had better leave it at that. The kitchen had already closed anyway. And I didn't have a tab! Shall probably leave it a good while before I return. Somewhat...
