Coffee#1 Monmouth: Caffeine, Cosiness, and CakeâWhat More Do You Need?
If youâre in Monmouth and in desperate need of great coffee, a comfy seat, and a dangerously tempting cake selection, then Coffee#1 is the place to be. This isnât just a coffee shopâitâs a warm hug in caffeine form, perfect for everything from lazy Sunday mornings to frantic midweek caffeine refuels.
The Coffee â
First things first: the coffee is excellent. Whether youâre after a flat white, a strong espresso, or something with enough syrup to qualify as dessert, the baristas here know their beans. Itâs smooth, rich, and made with care, not just sloshed into a cup like a petrol station special.
The Atmosphere đď¸
The whole vibe is cosy but spacious, the kind of place where you could spend an hour reading a book, catching up with friends, or pretending to work while actually scrolling through your phone. There are plenty of seats, and unlike some places that shall remain nameless (cough big coffee chains cough), you never feel rushed out the door.
The Cake Selection đ°
Now, letâs talk cakeâbecause Coffee#1 takes sweet treats very seriously. Thereâs a wide range of baked goods, from fluffy muffins to slabs of millionaireâs shortbread that could double as a doorstop (in the best way). Pair that with one of their specialty teas or a hot chocolate, and youâve got yourself a little moment of joy in a mug.
The Staff đ
The team here are friendly, efficient, and always up for a quick chat, which makes the experience even better. Even when itâs busy, they keep things moving without making you feel like youâre in a coffee-based relay race.
The Verdict âââââ
Whether youâre a Monmouth local or just passing through, Coffee#1 is the ideal pit stop for quality coffee, a great atmosphere, and cakes so good they should come with a warning label. Five starsâand an extra one for the shortbread that...

The atmosphere here is wonderful, the staff are extremely friendly, my cappuccino was made at perfect temperature and it tasted incredible too. In fact, I thoroughly recommend the seasonal roast!
When my laptop was taken by a petty thief, barista Courtney singlehandedly ran after him and tackled him to the floor outside Boots. I did wonder if perhaps insulting his mullet was a step too far, but honestly I respect the dedication to quality service.
Likewise, as my latte was about to meet its untimely demise at the hands of a gravity-defying spill, Manager Becky swooped in with the agility of a caffeinated ninja, skilfully averting disaster with a swift flick of her wrist. Assistant Manager Maddy, ever the vigilant guardian of all things frothy, stood ready with an arsenal of napkins, ensuring not a single drop was wasted. I am ever in awe of...
Read moreWhat happened to this place? i have been coming here almost daily for the past 6 months, and was always greeted by smiley familiar faces. All of a sudden today I had to say excuse me after waiting to get served for a few minutes although no queue...3 members of staff whom I never saw before sat down on the step chatting and ignoring customrrs coming in. Finally, a grumpy lady took my order and to my surprised overcharged me by 30p, although I did say I don't want the seasonal coffee. Left and went across the road to Cofi Lab - where I saw at least a dozen of what used to be Coffee 1 regulars - what a massive dissapointment of a cafe. Genuinely sad that this coffee shop is suddently going down and I wonder what happened to the wonderful staff who worked there. For reference - this happened at 16:15 and there was nobody else in the cafe despite it normally being...
