What a find this place was. On the last day of our holiday to Woolacombe, we found Hele Corn Mill Tearoom on our way home and we will most certainly be back.
The surrounding area that greets you (once you’ve parked off site around the corner behind the nearby pub on a pay-and-display basis) gives you little indication as to what awaits you around the corner.
What does await you? A stunning old mill that is a museum, surrounded by beautiful greenery and a tea room that is out doors but under cover. The welcome through the small serving hatch was warm and we were swiftly served up our scones with cream and jam plus hot drinks - which all hit the spot.
Our 5-year-old daughter loved being at the tea room, with so much wildlife around her and information boards. She loved being in the museum too, before the owner kindly told us “grub’s up”.
He also pointed out some caterpillars to her and also gave her some seeds from a flower she liked to plant in our garden (which we did once we got home!).
Make sure you try this place for yourself. It’s a unique and special experience, and just a few minutes walk to...
Read moreOh my gosh- what a find!!! The cutest, friendliest little tearoom in Devon!! It's a working mill, using the flour to make cakes!! Didn't catch the owners name but he was really friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. I managed to book online as the Facebook page said it does get very busy (it wasn't too busy when we arrived so walk-ins are definitely ok). The mill is working and has lots of info included to enjoy walking around. Huge choice of scones and cakes; we tried a variety of things Including fruit scones, cheese scones, chocolate cake and raspberry cakes (all made on site!). (My little boy gave the double chocolate cake 1000/10 so it's have been good!) Everything was fresh and delicious!! There's such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by the sound of the water mill and lots of lovely wildlife. We were offered some puzzles and brain teaser games which the kids (And adults) enjoyed. We will most...
Read moreBe aware, there is NO parking available for this "out of the way" tea room. All of the food available is home made, bread and cakes made direct from the mills ground flour. Unfortunately this place is still keeping the public outside (covid restricted).. as of Aug 2023. So either pick a warm day or wear some warm clothing. The food on offer is of a high standard although a little expensive. There is a single downstairs toilet which is kept clean, running hot water inside and outside the toilet with a number of hand sanitizer bottles placed conveniently. The mill is open to the public with photos and information dotted around showing its history and renovation. The owner (David) has done extensive genealogical work in finding out the past owners and the history behind the mill. There is also a small seated video room showing the...
