Happy surprise. Was looking for a craft shop, stumbled into a shell art gallery (definitely worth a visit), and joined through a door is this hidden gem! Not from the area so didn’t know much about boating in and around Sheringham, so found it very fascinating, especially that they have the actual first lifeboat used by volunteers (mainly fisherman) in Sheringham. The history, knowledge, and artefacts made this museum a happy visit, will definitely have another look round next time I’m there.

The highlight of this small free museum is a well-preserved late C19 lifeboat. You'll also find some artefacts from Sheringham's fishing industry and info about local historical characters. I was in and out pretty quickly, but if fishing history is your thing, the volunteers seem happy to share their knowledge with visitors.

Well preserved Victorian lifeboat displayed in its original shed. I was greeted by a very friendly volunteer who was more than happy to share some of her local knowledge with me. The museum is small but has a lot of info about the history of the Sheringham lifeboats and the local men, often different generations of the same families, who risked and sometimes lost their lives trying to save others. There are also old photos, paintings and artefacts related to lifeboats and fishing. Steps up to a raised platform enabled me to have a good look inside the boat. Admission free but donations are much appreciated. A very...
