An absolute cesspool of a gym / “health suite”. Poorly run facility, management are apathetic or downright rude when faced with any legitimate concerns or complaints. Thank goodness my 12 month membership is over soon. You’re very lucky if you ever get a call back from the membership office, or indeed if they make themselves available to chat to you face to face if you’re ever into the facility. Aurora is extremely expensive at £40 per month vs other local gyms and leisure centres in north down, East Belfast and Holywood. I have no idea how the council could possibly ever do a worse job than the current owners. Sauna and steam room still look like something nightmarish from 1970s Russia, “health suite” is anything but healthy. The gym is still packed with under 16s midweek, usually running about in groups of 4-6 misusing the equipment which makes for a terrible workout mostly. It is disgustingly dirty and machines / facilities including water fountains are broken almost every week. The water fountains have to my knowledge not been replaced or fixed once in the past 5 years… permanently broken, and dirty.

The sauna was once again broken and the steam room disgusting and in awful condition again today. Are they ever working? It’s been weeks. Steam room was cold and sputtering out some lukewarm mist, no steam at all …. Again. Tiles broken, the “health suite” is a bombscare and feels like you’d catch something from it. Left after about 30 seconds. The lockers, sauna or steam haven’t been looked after in a decade. Hard to find a locker than isn’t broken or damaged. How on earth are the council set to renew SERCO’s leisure centre contract? Aurora is an absolute dive, every time I’m in something new is broken and takes months (if ever) to get fixed. I only wish the council / a locally run trust had taken it over again, or an operator that cares such as Better Gym who run great facilities in Belfast… but looks like another decade of SERCO decay running the place into the ground in the name of corporate profiteering, subsidised by local ratepayers as always. Really regret paying the £9 day entry - I cancelled my £40 a month Aurora gym membership 18 months ago, and it’s the best financial decision I’ve ever made.

To bring my 6 year old in to practice swimming I have to wait until 4pm , this is the pool at 3:30 . Although there was 3 people using a third pool , staff commented empty most of the day . Wreck less parents and children blamed for closing of pools all day everyday why not police it properly and throw the idiots out and let the normal people enjoy .

Unfortunately this place has deteriorated so much recently.

Nothing works and the place is filthy.

About a year ago I complained there was a Fentanyl patch stuck to the glass in one of the showers. This went untouched for months.

A few months later I complained about black mould in the showers which was cleaned away but how does black mould grow in communal showers!

More recently I have been frustrated with the wear and tear which is showing.

The sauna has been unavailable, Boditrax is not working, the cardio machines are starting to look their age, the fixed weight machines are rusted and I have never seen the gym so dirty.

I brought this to the attention of staff at front desk who told the manager who did take the time to walk around with me and seemed genuinely shocked at the state of the place.

The mats are disgusting and one is ripped which is very unhygienic. I clean down the mat after use and the dirt that comes off daily is shocking.

I was trying to use a STEP in the gym but could only find the main step but not the inserts to raise it up. I finally asked a member of staff who said they had been stolen around Covid time.

The TRX strap is in terrible state and is not positioned correctly with the recent addition of rowing machines in the weights area.

I had to walk out of the gym today as I was sickened with the state of the place. It was filthy and I watched a staff member idly chat rather than tidy up.

There is no follow up on any complaints made and sometimes they don’t even bother to ask your name-so how could they even update you.

This one time well respected facility has let its...

Slightly disappointed with Aurora. I was a member years ago & decided to rejoin but what a mistake that was. The gym itself is decent, but the classes are such a let down - the only class I've ever been able to get booked onto is the cycle class. Lots of cycle times to choose from, however alot of the bikes are damaged as the pedal straps are either hanging off or not able to be tightened properly. Some of the rpm monitor screens on the bikes are broken also.

There are never spaces ever available on the other range of classes, ie bodypump, yoga or body balance. it must be the same people every single week taking the spaces. You'd think for the size of this place they'd offer more variety of class times/virtual classes, the only virtual classes they offer is the cycle class!!! Showers aren't great after swimming, they're never at the right temperature as the water comes out too hot. & anytime ive wanted to use the sauna, its usually out of order. Seems like youre getting offered all of this included with your membership that youre paying for each month, but you clearly dont.

Furthermore to add to my disappointment I decided to pay upfront the remainder of my membership fee to get out of my fixed contract before July next year, & after all the money they were happy to take from me, I was then informed that I couldn't even use the facilities after it was paid off. Even though my contract was due to end in July. I would have considered staying if the issues with the classes had...

My partner and I are thrilled with the equipment provided to make swimming more accessible for people with disabilities. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, Alison at the front desk was especially informative and the smiley male lifeguard with the sleeve tattoos is always great. No hesitations from any of the staff. All worth it to travel the extra 40 minutes to.

As a suggestion we would really love to see another pool wheelchair and a hoist in the second disabled room so we aren't waiting on people and vice versa because getting changed can take nearly an hour or more and we're aware others might need to use the equipment. Leaving our own clothes and items in the room to make it easier can also not be done right now because we're always worried about if anyone else would need access to a hoist. Will also echo what another person said on here and what friends have said too - the only area my partner and I can use to swim can sometimes be filled with kids jumping in, crowding the area and splashing us which isn't pleasant when we've travelled all the way due to better accessibility to try and practice swimming

Very grateful for what can access currently however, we will be back and we hope the suggestions are...
