Great local park especially for young children. It has a play park and 2 lakes with ducks and geese plus also multiple bird enclosures with many small, exotic feathered friends for the young children to be amazed by. There's a small coffee shop and also history in the shape of the towns War Memorial. A deck canon from a captured German WW1 sub takes pride of place nearby. In it's more recent history, Ward Park has played host to some top bands including Bangor's own Snow Patrol and rap star Eminem on a stage constructed at the sports pitch end of the park. 40000 people singing Chasing Cars is quite a sight. In July and August the classic Bandstand is a more modest location for Park life music with different themes each weekend ranging from Punk to Ska to swing. There is also a running track and pitches for those who want to keep fit. No on-site food but the park is close to the town centre, or bring a picnic, and sometimes there's an ice cream wagon. There are toilets over by the bowling greens. Ample parking at the Gransha Road, Park Drive and Broadway entrances, and a small disabled car park at the library with on-street parking elsewhere (eg Moira Drive). During the summer there are lots of live music events at the bandstand. UPDATE 2023: The old WWII air raid building that used to be the cycle club is now a...
