The maritime museum at Porthmadog is a gem of a museum to visit and you will get a warm welcome from the volunteer team. We expected the Slate Industry would feature in the exhibits and we were pleasantly surprised to learn that shipbuilding was also a major business for the town. A 10-minute video explained how the port developed into a major export hub to take the, best-in-the-world, slate to Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia and the ships exporting the slate were all built right outside. After which I was able to have a quick look around the artefacts and exhibits.
