Disappointing. First time visiting Porthmadog, stopped for lunch here, no one very welcoming or friendly on arrival. Partner was spoken to rudely by bearded gentleman for going against the one way system to get to back of queue to order, even though everyone else was going against system coming in from the exit door by where we were sat. Wasn’t provided with a glass to drink from to go with glass bottle of orange juice bought, asked waitress for one at the top of stairs where food was being made. This lady told me to go to bottom of stairs to counter to ask for one there. Asked there, waitress there told me to go back up stairs to get one. I told her I’d been sent down from there, she huffed and grabbed a glass for me and heavy handedly put it down infront of me and walked off. After about 45 minutes of waiting for food I went to ask and it seems it hadn’t been put on system so this was then made quickly for us, cold when came. Feeling very frustrated by this point, wishing we’d left during the long wait and asked for refund. On arrival we were tempted to buy some cakes to take away with us but decided against by end. Apologies that we received when late food arrived were too little too late. Money back or a free cake or something to make up for it would have made us feel a little more looked after but we left feeling keen to get out and very...
Read moreWhat a fabulous little cafe! The reviews I had read were very good, and I was not disappointed. The range of home made is including some quite exquisite receipe pies and pasties are outstanding, and look very tempting which means making a decision quite difficult. I enjoyed a chicken, cheese and spinach type pie, which I think they call a Hungie? Fabulous! The carrot cake was quite special too, with assorted chopped nuts on top.... And a very generous slice I might add. There was also a choice of some beautiful home made bread sandwiches, baps, batches.... The smell was enough! Also, there's a range of 🍕 slices and other savory products.... The hand written chalk boards have it a very homely and authentic natural foods feel. They boast that their products are all natural and without preservatives etc. And boy, they don't fall short on high expectations. The room inside is a little limited, but there is a larger quaint room behind the sales area. Very sheik in style, with old wooden tables, wooden beams, wooden bench seats, and a soft sofa area. There are steps to the different areas which would be difficult for people in wheel chairs, but otherwise a super find. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent food and the price isn't too bad, especially considering the quality and unusual...
Read moreI popped in for coffee and a snack lunch yesterday. There are two doors into the cafe, which causes a bit of confusion. I went in via the 'wrong' one where you're just among people eating at tables so went out and then in via the 'correct' door. I looked around for the menu but had to wait in the queue to ask about food and was then directed back to the entrance where the menus are kept in a box...also a bit confusing. I then wasn't sure whether to stand in the queue with the menu or to go and sit down to look at it...and then come back. Once ordered, my food arrived pretty swiftly but the breakfast burrito was burnt. I was surprised that it was served to me! I tried one end of it but gave up and returned it and asked for a sausage bap instead, which was ok...but only two sausages. Of the three packets of mayo that I picked up to go with the bap I could only open one!...scissors would've been handy or a brand of sachets that actually open. The coffee was average. I was not approached for a refund of the difference in price of my meal (£3) and by then I just wanted to move on with my hike. Feels like what was once an excellent cafe needs a little attention to detail to...
