Should be a pub not a restaurant, starters went wrong, mains went wrong, drinks went wrong, we kept wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt but when there is multiple mistakes... We unfortunately wouldn't come back. To start, the ribs starter came still frozen and had to be sent back. While the rest of us were eating our starters a waitress attempted to clear the table even though we hadn't finished and then we were waiting a further 20 minutes (45 min after ordering) for the ribs to arrive. They did apologise and comp the ribs starter(we had to remind them of this when we went to the bar for bill). For mains, I believe they overcompensated on the frozen starter and all the mains were burnt, extremely piping hot and the ale pies were burnt through from the bottom and tasted like burn which is a real shame and both of them didn't finish. The canneloni was again extremely hot that after everyone had finished their mains, it was still steaming and too hot to eat. They also forgot the sides with the mains and we had to remind them twice. We also find the order drinks at the bar a weird concept as it is the same waitress that you have to wait for after she has just delivered your meal. And then they pour you the wrong pint too.

The bathroom facilities also had no lock in the door and could do with a clean. The restaurant itself has rubbish on the floor and bar counter, and for a quiet night it should have been tidied.

In our opinion £113 down the drain and left...

We booked a table for 2 consecutive nights as we’d been here previously about 8 weeks ago and had a lovely time. We arrived early and ordered drinks, asked for the menus and were told that they’d be brought to our table. 30 minutes later after asking again the menus arrived. We ordered our food and after entering the pub 75 minutes earlier and watching others arrive after us, order, eat their meals and leave the place, I asked why we’d been ignored for so long? The girl behind the bar was very apologetic and we don’t blame her at all. We realised then that the owner a guy called Rob, who was sitting behind us for most of the evening and was keen to apologise, whilst sitting on his backside, clearly watching his staff struggle, it all felt completely insincere and insulting. We refused our food which had miraculously appeared just after complaining, I would never eat food from a kitchen after complaining and so we left. We offered 2 or 3 times to pay for our drinks and they refused to take our money. To treat returning customers as this is demeaning and embarrassing and we won’t be back. The real issue for me was that having taken insulin 20 minutes after ordering our meals, we had to leave to try and find some food before I developed a...

had an absolutely fantastic experience at this pub – from start to finish, it was everything you could hope for and more. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a cosy interior and a lovely outdoor area perfect for relaxing. The food was exceptional, with generous portions and a great selection of both classic pub favourites and more refined dishes. Every meal we had was cooked to perfection and packed with flavour.

What really made the visit unforgettable was the staff. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine smiles and made to feel completely at home. The team were attentive without being overbearing, always checking in to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. They struck the perfect balance of being friendly, professional, and approachable.

The service was quick and efficient, even when the pub got busy – which says a lot about how well it’s run. It’s clear the staff genuinely care about giving guests a great experience. It’s rare to find a place that gets everything so right, but this pub absolutely nailed it. I can’t recommend it highly enough and will definitely be...

If we could give the food 10 stars we would. The steak and ale pie is huge, with loads of meat and no fat. Really nice gravy. Chips are crisp but not hard and REALLY nice. Chicken Tikka Masala had loads of chicken that fell apart, and the flavour was really good. It came with rice, a poppadom and chutney. Gammon was big and cooked just right. Spinach and Ricotta Canelloni had tender pasta and delicious filling, with lots of sauce. Side order of onion rings was a whole stack! The apple pie was soooo good, and came with a jug of cream….i mean like a whole pot! Staff were all polite, attentive and approachable. A hardworking team of younger people. Atmosphere was relaxed, with a mix of individual drinkers, couples and families. No blaring music preventing you from chatting to each other….although to be honest, there wasn’t much talking when the food arrived!😆 There WAS a bit of a wait for the food to arrive, but it was well worth waiting for. This place is a gem, hidden away from the high street behind a children’s playground and carpark. Just a stone’s throw from the harbour.

One of the staff was very nice with us, we met with her outside and she told us that they still have a table, so we can go in, but we have time no rush. So we went in but unfortunately not that girl was our waitress, was an older woman and she was not so nice. She hurried us to order, was not so polite and nice. Was not a big choice of food, menu was ok as a simple pub, nothing special, not too many beer option, place not really cozy, no life in it, no vibrant, nothing what catch you. I am sure the staff was less then needed. Beside table ordered lambshank, and as i saw was just so so.. not so bad, but i am sure it was not so good either. We decided not to eat there. And just leave the place. 😏 Maybe we just were there in a bad time.

The ship inn sits on a back road in the centre of porthmadog conveniently next to a carpark. It looks a bit more classier compared to the other pubs and it does good food. While we waited for our food, one steak and one scampi several people came in with instruments and started setting up.The amount of guitars, flutes, music sheets and a Swedish violin which I'd never seen before was amazing. It was a Tuesday night which must be FOLK night. The food arrived, it was all very good and the service excellent .I even had room for the chocolate brownie and ice cream.wow.At this point we left the pub leaving everybody still tuning up there instruments, quite a job.Shame we missed it.
