Rayleigh Windmill — Attraction in Rochford

Lovely little historic landmark filled with amazing local history and artifacts. The volunteers are friendly and are wonderful at answering questions about the windmill and objects inside of it. Anyone who comes should be aware that the steps inside are very steep and are hard to get up if you have mobility issues, however the staff are helpful in giving advice on how to go up and down them. Windmill transformed into a museum of local history; and which is also used as a venue for weddings. It is staffed by volunteers who are very knowledgeable about the history of the windmill, and of Rayleigh. They have done a great job in restoring its' appearance, though most of the original windmill working mechanism is no longer in place. It's picturesque. Visited for the 1st time ever in the town of my birth. Lovely to explore, must be reasonably able bodied as to go up to all the floor as the stairs are very steep. The volunteers that were there on every floor were extremely knowledgeable and I learnt alot. Free admission but a £1 donation per person. Such a wonderful piece of history including a lovely model of the castle that once stood on the Rayleigh Mount. Wonderful. Highly recommend to...
