Visited just after 12pm on Thursday 9 May with my Grandmother, who eats there fairly regularly.
Traditional café, serving all the standards (all day breakfast, omlette, jacket potatoes etc.), but also pie and mash.
I had a make your own breakfast, which was delicious, whilst my Grandmother had a jacket potato with tuna, served with a side salad. We both had tea to drink.
Based on the number of customers, clearly very popular. As it was a warm day we sat outside, which I was glad of as it was so busy inside I would have struggled with the noise of all the people (neurodiverse brain). The downside to being outside is that you do get smokers sat near you, but it wasn't too bad and you get a pleasant view of the high street.
Staff are friendly and helpful and food is reasonably priced, with decent portions.
The café is accessible, with a ramp inside as the section with the counter is on a higher level, but the door is manual, so if you didn't want to mess about you can just sit outside and staff will come to you.
Didn't use the toilets, so no idea what they are like.
The café is very close to Rayleigh Mount, so it's a good idea to take a stroll along there's afterwards to work...
Read moreI was visiting family while I was down from Scotland, we don't get pie mash and liquor there, so I placed a takeaway order for 24 pies and 12 liquor to take back home to Scotland, which I know the pies will be absolutely great as I also had pie mash and liquor for my lunch, so I'm really looking forward to having traditional east end fayre at hom in Scotland. Thank you for accommodating a rather large export order.
I went back with my sister in-law recently, for breakfast and the obligatory take away order of mash and liquor, firstly I had the number 4 on the breakfast menu, it was so nice to have a fried breakfast that was piping hot but the egg was still runny, it was delicious, the mash and liquor was successfully delivered 360 miles from the cafe, all the way to Scotland except for one pie, that didn't make it all the way, my powers of resolved crumbled away like a Jacobs cream cracker, to be fair the choice was burger king or a pie, nae contest. I look forward...
