Mango Lounge — Restaurant in Rochford

Visited to celebrate a friends 30th birthday. My partner and I didn’t fancy a curry so we ordered some sides and bread to share instead. The amount of sides we order would have worked out to be the same price as if we ordered a curry each if not more. When the waiter came he told us we couldn’t order just sides we had to order a curry and that normally he would ask us to order a curry each but he would allow us to share one. We explained we just wanted sides but it went back and forth and I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed in front of our friends, I understand it’s not a tapas style place but I should be able to order whatever I want off the menu. In the end we ordered the sides we originally wanted and just added a curry on as well, of course it was too much food. I wish I had walked out instead of giving in to ordering and paying for more food than I could eat but it was awkward and I didn’t want the confrontation. We called at 7:20 Friday on the odd chance we could get a table (not exp anything). They happened to have a table that was free until 8:30 and stated they had served the current tables and could serve us in that time of we were happy to eat in that timeframe.

When we arrived the waiter seated us and took our drinks order. He then returned and stated that he'd informed the kitchen to expedite our meals to ensure we had as much time as possible to eat.

The service was lightning fast, but didn't feel rushed. We finished up after around 40 minutes and spent the remaining time finishing our drinks. The consensus at the table was that the food was excellent.

It was ideal for our group that just wanted to have a nice meal, at short notice and get back to drinking!

I've been a regular customer at this restaurant for three years since moving to the area. Generally, my experiences have been positive, except for a recent incident where I found a small metal shaving in my food and my samosas were missing. When I reported this, they addressed it promptly and offered a free meal next time, which was satisfactory. However, during my latest call to place an order, I was unexpectedly advised to 'order somewhere else'. This response from the manager/ owner was surprising, especially as a loyal customer who has dined and ordered takeout numerous times, and recommended their service to family and friends. This has led me to reconsider future patronage and cancel plans for a significant birthday celebration I intended to host at their venue.
