I had the opportunity to go inside and down into the vault on one of their open days. Such an interesting little building steeped in rich history. The volunteers are a friendly and welcoming bunch who are very knowledgeable about the local history that surrounds this intriguing building. Well worth a visit even if you just admire their famous history stain glass window which tells the story of the civil war days in Rotherham. To get to the vault you do need to go backwards down a small ladder and the ground is rough and uneven but you will get to see some historical graffiti and the original 15th century doors.

A beautiful little medieval chapel with loads of history and atmosphere. On the occasional open days they have they give you a guided tour of the crypt which used to be the local jail. There are cell doors down there covered in graffiti written by prisoners long ago. You really get a feel for the prisoners who stayed in those tiny damp cells with stone bunks.. There is a beautiful stained glass window at the back of the chapel and a tiny window at the front reached by a staircase where in medieval times the chaplain used to place a candle every night to welcome visitors to Rotherham.

I've passed the chapel many times and I always believed it to have been closed or abandoned building,a intriguing to look at but thinking it was closed never sort to actually visit it.the volunteer's we're lovely my friends son with a broken arm managing to visit the jail cells in the basement of the chapel.which is a little tricky to get to and a little more if you have a broken arm.well worth a visit
